Hi, and welcome to the West! :) I´ve uploaded your character sheet (click on "Personajes"-button), and in "Notes" you have the specifications for your two guns (the sawed Remington shotgun and a revolver). I´ve also given you access to some of the scenes for background information, so before you actually start you have time to have a look.

In the meantime, if you wish you can go to say hi in the Off Topic (Saloon) scene.

If you wish to improve skills, this is where you can spend your hard-earned BPs.

Sinta => you have 12 BPs to spend

Crowe => you have 12 BPs to spend

Choctaw => 19 BPs

Mayer => 9 BPs

The cost for purchase of skills is a bit tricky in this system. But have a look at the skills and let me know which ones you would like to improve. For instance:

Bronc Busting (Sinta, Crowe) => 3 BP for 1 purchase, another 3 BP for the 2nd
Animal Empathy (Sinta) => 5 BP for 5th purchase, 3 BP Crowe
Animal Herding (Sinta) => 3 BP, Crowe => 4 BP (4th purchase)
Riding (Sinta, Crowe) => 9 BP (3rd purchase)
Rope Use (Sinta, Crowe) => 6 BP (3rd purchase)
Gambling (Mayer) => 23 BP (3rd purchase)

Have a look at the skills and let me know which ones you wish to improve. Or if none, let me know also. I will update the character sheets afterwards.

hmm, it just occurred to me, instead of trying to improve gambling skill, you could improve Gaming which is a lot less expensive (4 BP I think)

Yes, the cost for GAMING is 5 BP. You want to improve this skill? It is for all sorts of games where gambling is not an important factor (checkers, billiards,...). This would qualify for the Professional Goal of "improving relevant ability" as a Gambler.

You want to increase this skill?

How much does each skill improve with the increase? Does it depend on the current level? Or the profession path?

I understand from the tutorial that the answer to the latter question is "no" because the profession path is a way of getting BPs, not spending them, but I am not 100% sure. I do not know about the other two questions after reading the tutorials. Have I missed anything?

How much does each skill improve with the increase?

The tutorial was missing information regarding skill advancement, I just added a brief explanation there. The Skill List table has a Mastery Die (1d8, 1d10...) that is rolled each time an improvement ("purchase") is made, and the relevant attribute is added (INT, WIS, STR, DEX, etc). The Universal skills start with a value of the relevant attribute, so in effect, the 1st purchase on the Universal skill you get double the attribute value.

On that skill list, you can also see the BP cost. The problem is that the cost is modified by a high or low attribute score IF the relevant attribute is WIS, INT or CHA. I have added a info regarding this.

The actual Mastery Die rolls I do with the fancy spreadsheet, it also gives the BP cost for each skill with the attribute value already taken into consideration. But to keep things simple, the Skill table in the tutorial scene lists the skills with the BP Cost, relevant attribute and Mastery Die. A very high or low attribute can modify the BP cost slightly (+/- 1 or 2), but nothing too major.

Sinta Custer

Let's see if I have understood how this works (I think I have not).

Sinta has 8 BP to spend. Those 8 BP can be spent on skills. If those skills are related to one of Sinta's best attributes she gets additional BP. For example, for CHA-related skills she gets 3 BPs out of every BP because her CHA is 14. Is this correct? Or is this the other way around, high attributes reduce the cost in BPs of raising skills (e.g. improving Accounting is free for people with INT 14 or higher)? (*)

Every skill has a different cost. For example, you need 3 BPs to improve your Accountancy skill once but only 1 BP to improve your Animal Herding skill once. With additional BPs you can increase your skills more than once. Is this correct?

Every time you improve your skills, say Animal Herding, you pay the BP price (1BP for Herding) and improve (i.e. lower) the value of the skill " by the attribute + Mastery Die" (WIS + 1d10 for Herding, i.e. 11 + 1d10 for Sinta's Animal Herding for every 1BP spent). Is this correct?

Thanks for your help!

(*) Plus this only applies to skills that depend on INT / WIS / CHA, right?

Sinta, you have 12 BP to spend on skills. 4 are from the Cattle Thieves-scene, and 8 from the Saddle Up-scene.

The BP cost for each skill is listed in the table (see Tutorial). This cost can be modified by a high value in WIS, INT or CHA but only IF the skill uses one of these attributes. Sinta has WIS 11, INT 10 and CHA 14. WIS and INT are average, so really only CHA related skill costs are modified by the “skill learning modifier” which is 3 for Sinta.

For example, Accounting costs 3 BP and is based on INT, while Animal Herding costs 1 BP and the main attribute is WIS. Note that the cost is listed for the 1st purchase. The 2nd purchase costs accumulative more (the cost of the 1st purchase is included in the 2nd).

The table gives you the BP costs, and only the skills that use CHA are modified for Sinta. For instance, Joke Telling (CHA) has a cost of 1 BP, but since Sinta has a skill learning modifier of 3 (because of her high CHA), she would get it for free IF she makes a 3rd purchase. This part is a bit tricky. But normally it would cost a character with normal CHA 1+(1+1)+(1+1+1) = 6 BP to make three purchases. First purchase 1 BP, 2nd 2, and 3rd 3 BP. Sinta would purchase the 3rd straight away, but she would have to “pay” a mínimum of 1 for the 1st and 2nd.  since the 1st and the 2nd have a negative or zero cost. The 3rd purchase has therefore a cost of 6-3=3 for her. The 4th purchase would cost her 4-3 = 1 BP.

Intimidation (CHA) has a cost of 2 BP for the first purchase, 2+2 = 4 BP for the second, and so forth. So Sinta could not make the first purchase, and instead she could take the second purchase straight away for the cost of 2+4= 6 BP-3 modifier = 3 BP. The 3rd purchase would then cost her (2+2+2) -3 =  3 BP. 4th purchase 2+2+2+2-3 = 5 BP, and so on.

The increase is exactly how you described (Relevant attribute (or lowest attribute value) + mastery die), but the mastery die is rolled for each PURCHASE, not for every BP spent.

Please confirm how you wish to spend the BPs.

Bronc Busting => 3 BP for 1 purchase, another 3 BP for the 2nd
Animal Empathy => 5 BP for 5th purchase
Animal Herding=> 3 BP
Riding => 9 BP (3rd purchase)
Rope Use => 6 BP (3rd purchase)

Especially if you wish to improve Animal Herding, as the roll is required in the scene.

If there are other skills you might be interested in let me know please.
