I wanted to start a new game (sorry, Tingwe. I didn't say anything when you announced your game, but I really don't like zombies ^^U ), although I was looking for something like fantasy or sci-fi buuuut... I like your games and it sounds interesting. Since you mentioned other ideas, if you are thinking of mastering a second game at the same time with that kind of setting soon, maybe I will wait for that other game. If you are are going to master only one, you may have my interest for this one.

So, would we play more or less individually and from time to time we would interact with the other players, would we start individually and then play as a group...? How much interaction would we have with other players? It sounds like like we would work mostly with our NPC partner

Since you mentioned other ideas

Yes, actually I have them in mind. The problem is that, right now, I hadn't put as much though on the plot as for the detective's one.

But as I mentioned earlier, if the general interest points clearly towards another direction, I will definitely put my hands to work on that. That's also why this is more of an inquire previous to a proper recruitment :)

These would be the options I constantly keep considering:

a) the second chapter (tale) in A tale of tales. Previous players could keep they characters should they want to. New players will be very welcome.

b) This might sound familiar Faris: yet a new adaptation of Pendragon XD So far, I have conducted two games in English under that setting (Faris was in both, so she would probably be able to elaborate on that for those of you interested). None of them could be completed though, so I still keep that thorn under my skin...

c) I know this one might be really appealing for you: a game based on In Her Majesty's Name... So yeah, steampunk victorian era... Problem with this one is that I am no expert there. I really like the characters and stories introduced in the skirmish game though, and wanted to merge them with some other Victorian topics such as War of the Worlds.

d) a space exploration game. Not super futuristic and mildly realistic (i.e. it would be like Interstellar, The Martian -the book, not the movie-, Red Planet, and so on so forth, and not even close to far away scifi like Star Trek or Star Wars) As a super fan for this field and topic, this is one I have always wanted to drive but never got really into the chunk of it. But doing it in English could prove worth it as it is the common language for this in the real world.

So, clearly the detectives and space games have the most sense to be conducted in modern English. Then we'd have Pendragon and Victorian games which, although it'd make sense they run in English, the language employed in reality at both settings would have definitely differ from the one we could use (well, actually the Pendragon one doesn't make much sense now that I think of it, since under Mallory's setting they would have spoken something similar to French, and under realistic settings a mix between Latin, Briton and West Germanic, but who cares, is set in Britain anyway XD ). Finally any fantasy adaptation could employ any language, so no particular sense for English there but just the shake of it.

Considering the natural difficulties on finding players interested in English games, I believe it will be plausible to conduct only one game at a time (two tops, but I doubt I could get enough people for both unless I reduce the participants numbers).

So then, I ask all of you who might be interested in any of these 5 settings (Detectives, Fantasy, Pendragon, Victorian, Space), to rank your preferences. With them, we'll discuss which one would we be playing :)

Count me in, saecel. (If things turn out good enough that you consider creating two games, I might be available for both, since I'm low on currently played games, and most of them are... slooow... xD). Here are my preferences:

First of all: Game System --> I don't even care. I'm used to several systems by now, and I love learning new ones (so I can loathe or love them). I'm quick at that learning, too.

Game Setting:

1.-Fantasy / Pendragon (may not be fantasy but is medieval, so for me it's mostly the same context). Love medieval fantasy so this would be my top priority.

2.- Detectives. What you have explained seems very interesting. Besides, I'm watching Brooklyn 99 these days, and I want to do some goofy cop stuff xD

3.- Space. Not been very keen on space throughout my life, but I've been getting some good input lately, which has sparked a little bit of interest.

4.- Victorian. I tend to dislike Victorian era things, and also steampunk. I acknowledge that Steampunk is "cool", but I don't know... it's not for me.

That said, I would love to play in any of these settings, given the special premise of an English game. So if you're low on players I'll play anything. If you get enough candidates, I would give my spot to another person in the Space or Victorian settings (not on the other ones :P).

It also seems that Detectives / Fantasy / Pendragon are the ones that seem more "ready", since you gave some deep thought on the first one, and you have made previous attempts on the other two...

You count with my sword/gun/laser for wichever of them. However, if you choose to do any of the other

1-Space exploration: I'm jinxed with sci-fi games. Every game I've played have been abandoned before completing a second chapter T_T  I want to play a Sci-fi game!

Wait... I mean... They were perfect! There were absolutely no problem! Please, let me play if you master this!

2-Pendragon: I, too, want to finish a Pendragon game XD

3-Wichever- All of them sound interesting

My God, my God >.< And I don't have time for more games DDDD: I cry a lot T.T Saecel, would it be possible a VIP pass? *.* I would love reading. A lot :DDDD

@Farris

sorry, Tingwe. I didn't say anything when you announced your game, but I really don't like zombies

No probs Farris, maybe the next game is more of your liking :)

@saecel

Thank you for the extra info regarding the detective story. It does sound very interesting... So there would be 4 separate story lines that cross with each other at certain points? I like that, even though it's more work for the GM (been there, done that). Cool idea though.

Regarding the other ideas, you want me to put the 5 setting in order of preference... That's tough, they all sound quite good actually, and I'd probably apply to play on any of them. OK, here goes:

1) Detectives
2) Space
3) Pendragon
4) Fantasy
5) Victorian steam punk

Short explanation: you got me all hyped up with the detective setting, so at the moment it beats the space setting by a narrow margin. I would like to know more of the space exploration setting. So those are my number 1 and number 2 choices, not necessary in that order.

Pendragon and Fantasy are sort of a tie for the 3rd place. I like fantasy settings in general, but I already have a few going on.

Victorian steam punk: I don't mind steam punk either, in fact in the last year or so I've participated in two. Which is probably the reason why it is nr 5 on my list.

Then, in no particular order, Pendragon, Space and Detectives games tie up so far, and three people have shown interest in playing one or more of them at a time...

Should we cap the games on 3-4 players (not PCs, which is an option I might introduce for the game -i.e. something I have always wanted to try is making each player in charge of a PC and its antagonist and see what happens - ) we might have already full house and be good to go :)

Anyone else interested?

I think that's for you to decide, whether you are comfortable with more people or not.

I am comfortable with 3 people, what I am pondering right now is how far do I want to go. I mean, I would love to run the three games I mentioned (Pendragon, Space, NYPD). And all them could be run with 3+ (I could actually seek 1 volunteer from the general forum if needed... that's not so tough... or perhaps even right here? Mooneyes? ehem ehem... XD ). That will facilitate my role since the less crowded the game, the easier (normally) it is for the DM. But still, I do not want to promise the moon, since I know from experience that English games are quite demanding by nature (if narrating and describing regularly in a native language is challenging some times, just imagine doing so in a different one), meaning that I am still considering which and how many games would/could I run. Of course the direct answer is: start with one, and once on track, evaluate the feasibility for an additional one. That I know. And will probably do. Question is, where to start? XD

I'm gonna be traveling for work most of this week, so I'm going to have plenty of time to work hard for my job keep on meditating about the three ideas and the pros and cons for each one (I can tell you already I have scratched a plot for each of the three genres*)...

Notas de juego

* here's the teaser

-> NYPD: to what I mentioned earlier, I would change one thing: instead of force PC-NPC pairs, after thinking about what Faris mentioned, I definitely believe it would be better and funnier to have PC-PC pairs. Thus, the game would circle around two pairs of cops/detectives comprised of PCs (4 players) who work in the Dept and cases described earlier. This method would ensure much more dynamism and player-player interaction I believe.

-> Pendragon: I would like to introduce here a component that I believe would help capturing the nature of the game when played in person, and that would also be quite fun to play. For those of you who know the game, and also for those who doesn't, you'll remember that one component of the system was the game-play among the duality of passions and behaviors of all human beings. Each character had a set of values that determined somehow how it would behave under certain circumstances (i.e. they are pairs of traits such as brave/coward; lazy/energetic; chaste/lustful; etc). Well, to do something with that I am planning to create a game in which each player will control two opposed characters (even antagonists or nemesis, being one of them 'good' and the other 'evil' generally speaking... but more precisely, each of them serving a different higher goal or master within the plot). The players will be hidden, meaning that no one knows who's character is who's and which 'side' do each of them belong to, but for the exception of your own two characters. Then, the plot will lead the players to try to 'win' the game with only one of their allegiances and to confront with each other players characters and within each player characters. This game could work nicely with 3-4 players. That will sum up for 6-8 PCs, all of them together, but each player will know only 2 (its owns), and will have no idea about the intentions, allegiances or players of the other 4-6 PCs. I know, it somehow sounds like an adaptation from Werewolf of Miller's Hollow for very few players, but I think it could be fun in the context of Pendragon, vassals, fealty oaths, etc, etc, etc.

-> Space. “Two possibilities exist: either we are alone in the Universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.” Arthur C. Clarke. What else can I say? XD I'm a huge fan of the Fermi Paradox, and that will be the anchor for the game. 3-4 astronauts from the NASA-ESA consortium in a not-so-distant-future mission to either settle the paradox once and for all... or not.

I'd start with one and see how it goes, before starting the second and the third. That's what I would do, but I'm not in your shoes saecel. Running three fairly complex sounding games in English at the same time sounds challenging, but I'm sure you have given this quite a lot of thought already. What I'm a bit concerned about is that if the core of the players is formed by the same 3 guys, one player unable to post would effectively slow down all three games. Or imagine trying to find a substitute!

Personally, I cannot see myself saying no to any of the three games, even though I'm a bit concerned if they start at the same time. I mean, I can probably do them all if I'm accepted as a player, but the quality of the posting and of the participation would probably suffer if we were to start them all at once.

That's my two cents about starting the games simultaneously. End of the day, I'm sure we'll adapt and I can see some positive aspects to having the same group of players also. For instance, if one game is in a crucial all-or-nothing-this-is-it-wow-incredible-epic-hellyeah moment, we can concentrate on that game and take it slow with the other two and so on.

Now to the 3 proposed games... Boy they do sound cool :)

DETECTIVE STORY: I agree 100% about changing the NPC-PC pairing to PC-PC pairing in the detective story. Running PC-NPC storylines is basically running 4 individual games where each story has to at certain points cross with another story. And you'd miss out on PC-PC interaction. If you had a number of available players, you could have players from one game doing NPC in another as secondary characters.

So, two pairs of PC's working to solve crime, maybe even some healthy competition inside the Department (I'll kick your ass in the two-on-two basketball game this Saturday kind of healthy, or not so healthy I'll interfere with your investigation to score some extra points with the supervisor), some personal stuff getting in the way. Until something big happens and they need to join forces. Sounds good to me.

PENDRAGON: the idea sounds interesting, do you have any idea of the length of the game? For some reason, it strikes me as a shorter game with the story advancing quickly to a confrontation between the two factions.

SPACE: strangely enough, this is the one that would be number one on my list if I had to choose just one of the three to participate in. I actually have a character concept in mind for this one.

I could play one of the games, two at most (I should say only one, but they all sound very interesting) but I agree with Tingwe and saecel:

That said in which of them are YOU, saecel, more interested or you think it will be easier for you? Since you know that you will have players for whatever you do, I think that your decision should be based in your own preferences.

Something deep inside me tells me the 'last frontier' is where my soul would like to rest for the upcoming times...

Yeah, I've been revisiting the Necronomicon lately (jeez, I love it so much...) and something inside me forces me to pretend I'm up to HPL narration standards.

Anyhow, I think the game that will happen first will be a space story. I've been after that one for a long long time, and I think this will be the best chance to make it happen. Been thinking on the profile, background, story and plot during most of today's meetings hours, so the fluff is heating and the crunch is getting ready to go.

Next in my list, should time and life provide, will be the NYPD game. Somehow, Pendragon ranges last in my own list. Perhaps too many thorns in my skin or too much of a youth muse to pursue after all so many years (Pendragon is the first RPG game I've ever played, way back 20 years ago).

Ok ladies and gentlemen, I've been working hard lately on the game discussed previously and, though still a work in progress, wanted to share with you all the official teaser. As discussed previously, I am looking for 3-4 astronauts ready to jump on a mission in a not so distant future... one that could well be this one...
