Regarding the driving force of the characters

I understand the reluctance to travel into the unknown. Self preservation is a very strong factor. (Not in horror movies though!) and I´m open to alternate missions. The UNSF have many missions to choose from. The thing is that by walking away from a job will result in a pay cut.

Not all characters need their pay... But some do. The drawback with characters without a mutual history or pregenerated backgrounds with motives built in make it hard to find what make them head into the hornets nest.

Not uncommon in RPGs.

The situation, it may not have been what Zordji meant, with characters doubting the wisdom in going down a hole to an uncertain situation and possible death - is not something you do with a smile on your face. I agree. I wouldn´t want my character to get killed without any chance of defending "myself".

So, the idea of blowing up the place as Chard suggested is within the mission parameters. Although the more investigative approach could be more lethal it could be fun too.

If you guys decide to blow the rig to kingdom come, there will be another destination.

Just another day on the job.

If I have misinterpreted the meaning of Bishop´s comment, I apologize. But that´s what I thought I would have pondered on as a player as well. So, let´s get this helicopter on to the ice, shall we?

It's OK, chief.

I'd like to add on my own that the character is like that, always with a wry retort, even to the best of news.

Mario de Gusmão

Mario just listens, checks his handgun, and spends the last part of the travel looking absently through the window, probably with his head being miles away from there.

I jus't don't care about risks, that's why they pay me, isn't it?
And, anyway, at first it doesn't sound that risky.

Peter takes Gusmao's cue, extracts his handgun from the holster and a cleaning kit from his pack, and proceeds to clean the weapon thoroughly.

Cleaning a handgun in a moving hellicopter is not a good idea, due to small pieces falling. Mario only checks that it's still there, in a automatic semi unconscious movement.

Peter is a MD, so it probably never crossed his mind.

Shane McArthur

Shane grins at the mix of reactions "Don't worry, I've got your backs boys and girls." He opens and rechecks a steel case containing his weapons packed in black foam, confident they are secure he slams down the lid again. Adjusting the straps on his black, hardplate bodyarmor he nods at the Sarge, "We can do this, don't worry"

Confident in his ability to get the job done, McArthur sat back in his seat and takes in as much information as possible, rereading the briefing and listening to the Sarge.

Shane also has a combat knife, OTV Bodyarmor he simply won't accept he is not capable of handling any danger he is sent into, so is not concerned (at the moment).

Through the windows in the heli, they all can see some red lights down in the white-out of the white land mass. Bishop puts his polished gun in the appropriate holster and wonders how anyone is supposed to be able to pick such things apart and back together again. He was satisfied with having cleaned the exterior of the gun to a pristine standard.

So, with less than a little intelligence on what to expect and with some mumbo jumbo explanation about solar flares and magnetic anomalies they are about to risk their lives. Just another day at the office!

"This is Tri-Plan 457 calling Station 10. ETA in one minute! I repeat ETA in one minute." The pilot calls over the radio.

"How are you able to keep the elevators connected to the sub base? The ice is shifting..." Taverner asks Chard.

Sgt Chard - Tri-Plan Enterprises

"That´s classified information, professor." Chard replies. "Get ready to exit and meet with Miss Watersdwon at Station 10. She will be perfectly capable of taking you to the rig."

Chard moves over to the pilot and straps a safety harness on. When the heli starts to descend, he waves at the team and says. "Get back with a report and I´ll buy dinner."

When the helicopter touch down, the safety bands holding the snow mobile ejects and the rear cargo bay opens up. Lights flicker on inside the vehicle and a blistering gale fills the cargo hold. Taverner buttons the thermo suit all shut and wraps a yellow and blue wool scarf around his neck. He picks his back pack up and compares it to Shane´s large holdall. He adjusts the snow goggles and exits the metal bird, hoping for a cup of tea at Station 10.

The first thing he notices is a huge transport plane hulking next to the station.

Cita:

"Get back with a report and I´ll buy dinner."

Peter looks askance* at Chard and retorts: Fat chance.

Then he zips his suit too, takes his backpack and trots dutyfully down the ramp whistling and old song, wose rhyme sounds like:

There's a wild, wild whisper
Blowing in the wind
Calling out my name like a long lost friend
Oh I miss those days as the years go by
Oh nothing's sweeter than summertime
And American honey

Danni jumps from her sit taking all her stuff with her. She smiles at the cool wind that enter by the open ramp and go out while checking her suit.

- This will be a fantastic journey. I think i can use my cam here...

Then she picks her handbag and took a small device with a thinner LCD screen, then move near the helicopter and take a picture of her face all cover by her own hair due to the wind jet and near the inscrptions of the machine. She give a clap to the chassis and go back with the team.

- Good boy, good boy. An stupendous ride was that...

The helicopter door's opened and the freeze comes into the machine. After removing my helmet and got myself inside the polar outfit I jumped out from the helicopter with my bag at my shoulders.

Nice... here we are...Station 10 I said while my eyes concentrates in the immensity of the white iced landscape, and then in the plane which should bring us back home.

So, let's meet Ms. Watersdown. The soon we start, the soon we finish and fly back into Valhalla. I said after adjusting my gloves and then turned back to Sgt. Chard.

Are you also coming into Station 10, sergeant? or is this a farewell and are you returning back to Valhalla?

Mario just introduces the magazine on his handgun and jumps out of the heli.
Looks like his trying to acknowledge everything on the surroundings, taking mental note on everything.

- By the way, what's doing that airplane there.
Isn't it an old Lockheed C-130 Hercules?

I thought all of those went to retirement years ago when the Airbus A400M took over the business...

Shane McArthur

Silent and impassive, Shane fastens the clasps on thick jacket and holdall in one hand and weapons case in the other steps off the chopper onto the ice as if he is simply taking a stroll across the park in the summertime. He looks sidelong at the plane before following the team towards the station.
