Mount cheyenne is quite famous for being the base for the NORAD. But as you could see NORAD is only the tip of the iceberg.

The airman gave you some indications to arrive to the conference room. Following the red line was an easy hint, but the line was really, really long. The complex was huge, and you were exploring only a small piece of it

After a three minutes walk, you arrive to the meeting room where 2 air force officers dressed with their blue suits. One was a Major, and the other one a Captain. A Female Captain.

When the Major saw you he stood up and all the military in the room saluted him with perfect syncrony.

The major saluted and told you "Stand easy and take a seat gentlemen, Ma'am. I'm Major Paul Davis. I'm the one who informs to the president of everything that is happening at the SGC. But for the next days I will be the SGC21 team leader. Let me introduce you Captain Latimer from the Air Force. She is an astrophysician, expert in the gate techonology and of course a valuable member of the US Air Force"

Captain Latimer looked at you with an open smile "I'm the Stargate expert...at least when Captain Carter is outworld. You must be doctor Byrne. Daniel Jackson told us about your brilliant job with Stonehenge. We are glad of having you on board."

Major David read some papers in the table. They looked like military transfer orders "Sergeant Smith, Lieutenant Jenkins I have read your files and they are really impressive. I have selected you personally so I hope that you are not going to embarrass me. " He smiled ad you and told you "It's that understood?" 

"We are waiting for General Hammond. He will debrief us with the content of our mission but in the meanwhile we should know something about us. Do you have any combat experience? Have you ever used a weapon Doctor?. We must know our weaknesses in order to assemble a real team"

That complex was incredible. And only thinking somewhere deep into the mountain could be a kind of mechanism able to transport us to another planet in a far point of our galaxy shocked me.

We arrived to the meeting room and two officers received us.

Thank you sir - I saluted both officers - I'll try to do my best in this team. I promoted first at the academy but I didn't have real combat experience. I hope it's not a problem to join the team.

I turned to the one that will become my partners and introduced myself.

I'm Second Lieutenant Hal Jenkins. Glad to be here with all of you.
 

I saluted politely and "civilianly" everybody there. I was not yet used to the martial salute, and did not mean to offend anybody. Being surrounded by all that military was overwhelming, but I made my best to look in control.

- Thank you, Captain Latimer. It's an honor to hear that came from Dr. Jackson. I can't wait to meet him. Is he in the base?

After hearing Jenkins's introduction, I realised how impolite I was.

- I beg you pardon for my rudeness. My name is Keiran Byrne, doctorate in Archaeology. And really happy out to be here.

Captain Latimer smiled at Keiran warmly

"Well, he is not here. In fact, we believed he was dead until a few days ago. Colonel O'Neill is in Abydos" She chucked cutely "Abydos the planet, not the Egyptian temple but it could be possible that they were linked in some way"

Major Davis interrupted her.

"General Hammond has sent a team to find and bring him home. They have contacted with the SGC 20 hours ago and we have asked him some names to help us in our mission. You are here because you were the first in Jackson's list"

Major Davis talked to Jenkins and Smith frankly

"I'm not going to lie. This team is really uncommon. First of all, you are members of the army and all the SGC members are members of the air force. Secondly, we have an archeologist with us. No offense, Doc. And finally, I have heard that a doctor is coming to complete the team. I have selected you, but my options were restricted"

"In my personal opinion, someone in Washington desires our failure but we don't have the right to fail. One Sergeant has been kidnapped from this base by hostile aliens with  an incredible firepower technology. Our mission will be rescue her if she is there. If not we will explore the planet in order to destroy any threat for our planet."

Then he nodded to Jenkins and said "I'm a liason officer with raher combat experience. The first shot was difficult, the second slightly easier and the third it was as in shooting practice. Don't worry about your experience, sometimes it has to be your first time"

Two people entered the room while Major Davis was speaking. A middle-age woman dressed like a doctor and a short and bald man in his military suit. The charisma and presence of the man was palpable and in line with the stripes sought in his uniform: two silver stars who mark him as a Major General.

When he entered every military in the room saluted him martially.

"Stand easy gentlemen, ma'am. Please take a seat. I'm Major General George Hammond from the US Air Force.  I'm sure that you're asking yourself why are you here. But first of all, I want to show you something. The reason why we are here." He clicked a button on a console and a flat TV screen appeared on the wall showing a video from the internal CCTV of the stargate command.

"This images were recorded 3 days ago. As you can see, the firepower and armor of the hostile aliens were beyond our possibilities. 4 of our people were killed and a Sergeant was kidnapped. In fact, the project was being closed when whe had the breach in our security and the only stargate address known was Abydos. Captain Latimer, could you explain the dialing incident?" 

Captain Latimer nodded at him "Yes, sir. The issue is that we supposed that the only valid address in the stargate was the Abydos one. In fact, we thought that Colonel O'neill had blown up the Abydosian gate and we were perfectly safe... but three days ago we suffered a breach in our security... you had seen the images, they are clear as water"

"General Hammond has recalled Colonel O'neill to the active duty in order to bring back Daniel Jackson from Abydos. They will return back to Earth in 27 hours. They contacted us 36 hours ago to inform us that the breach couldn't come from that gate, so the unique possibility is the existence of another gate or gates somewhere else..."

She took a pause to regain breath

"While we were running a diagnostic on the dialing system, using random chevron to improve the dialing system performance when we found a brand new stargate address. It was nearly impossible to find one address randomly, but I suppose that sometimes "shit happens" .This address has been coded as P5X-984. You can see on the screen the known stargate address. Please, memorize them, it could be the difference between returning home or being trapped offworld"

"These Symbols are called chevrons. Every known stargate has the same chevrons with a single difference: The origin point. Our origin symbol is the 7th in these addresses, the funny A with the circle in the top. According to Doctor Jackson, it represents the sun over the Giza pyramids...We will need to find the origin symbol in P5X-984 to come back home. I hope that with some help of Doctor Byrne we could return with no problems "

I looked at the recording about the attack and I studied the movements of the enemy troops. That was something involuntary that came out spontaneously.

Do we suppose then that they didn't come from Abydos? They can come from any planet or whatever around the galaxy. How could we discovered the other "directions" to call to?

Many questions crossed my mind. We were in a real danger if there was enemies with that fire capability and such improved armours and weapons. We were really in a mess.
 

Captain Latimer looked at Lieutenant Jenkins with a spark of intelligence in her eyes

"Lieutenant. We are working upon guesses. 3 days ago, if you had asked me about other addresses I would had answered "No way in hell". But, they have come from an unknown origin. Our new guess is that they have come from P5X-984. Is it possible?, Yes. Is it for sure? Of course not. 3 days ago we were alone in the universe and now we have had hostile attackers at home... and we are getting prepared for the next attack. We are integrating a titanium iris to prevent new attacks in this facility"

Major General Hammond took the floor and told you

"Thank you, Captain. Gentlemen, we have sent a M.A.L.P probe to P5X-984 and we have received images from the probe as you can see on the screen."

The atmosphere of the planet is quite similar to Earth's one. In fact, the climate is as nice as  in Las Bahamas or Hawaii, sunny and with occasional showers at night.

He went on with the precision of the surgeon at work

We can confirm the presence of the Dial-home device and a strange monolith with a message carved in

Our digital image enhancement experts have obtained an image of part of the writing. But when we have sent the probe to read the content of the other sides we have lost the link. Here you are the content of the text

General Hammond went directly to the business. It seemed that he was in a hurry.

"What's your opinion Doctor Byrne? Can you give us some information about the monolith or the writing?"

I stared at the images for too long. My first reaction was to look around for hidden cameras. This could not be happening.

- I'm sorry General, but that sounds a bit of a horse's hoof. Is it all this real? You mean we have discovered alien life, and we are at some kind of war with them? And nobody knows? - I cleared my throat. - I mean, I read all the papers and all that, but this is very big. Now I understand why Jackson didn't even send a postcard.

I tried to recompose myself. And as the reality began to settle, disbelief gave way to excitement.

- So, you guys have really discovered alien civilisations, based on ancient mythology? That's... amazing. When are we leaving? I cannot wait to...

And finally was able to actually recompose myself.

- I'm sorry General, but you have to understand me. This is something I've dreamed with my whole life. Let me have a look at the engraving.

I tried to look at the image but that didn't mean nothing for me. I couldn't understand anything about it. This was a job for the doctor, not for me. My concerns were focused on other issues, such life forms and their technology, mainly weapons

Any life form detected in the planet?

Your dice rolls were pretty bad... a 98, and a 87 is almost a fumble  XD... It would have been hilarious :)

The information that you have obtained is:

• The writing is in some kind of runic language.
•  The runes are not Celtic, it could be Nordic ones but you don't know nothing about the content. MAybe with some study you will be able to decipher them
• Runes could be ideograms or single characters. Your guess is that every single rune is a letter in this case
• You don't have a clue about the monolith

You can use this information or not. You can be sincere or pretend that you know more than you really know :)

All this is going out of hand. Didn't have they read the record? After the plane and hours of reading I have managed to internalize all this and sincerely I need to move on. I hope the doctor despite his childishness is as competent as they say he is. Changing the subject and trying to be productive, I stare at General Hammond:

I read the papers and I guess is not the first confrontation with these beings and referring to what you've said about their firepower ... Isn't true that Captain O'Niel was able to handle his weapons? Do not we have those weapons? Have not we been able to reproduce them?

I understand that maybe I've been a little cheeky, but maybe I'll get the good doctor to focus.

Major Davis took over the speech and answered your questions

"Lieutenant. We haven't seen any alien life, but we have lost also the contact with the M.A.L.P. that is rather uncommon. It could be that the probe was destroyed by some alien life but that it's only a guess. We don't rule out any hypothesis. We will send another probe to send the material and try to discover what happened with the first one"

"Sergeant. We have fought with them twice: in Abydos and here at the SGC and we are even. We had 2 firing staff, but some charming people have taken them to Area 51 to do the reverse engineering stuff. We expect that they will have results in two or three years. But sure, if we find more of them we will bring that shit home. We will use standard US Air Force weapons with perforating ammo"

Major General Hammond Smiled at Keiran and sighed, he was a patient man but he needed some answers. He drilled his haze into Keiran's eyes  and said to him

"I can understand your enthusiasm Doctor, but we need some answers. Can you handle with this or I'm wasting the money of the contributors by hiring you?"

Then you heard someone knocking on the door. General Hammond simply ordered

"Come in"

After a three minutes walk, you arrive to the meeting room. The door was closed but you heard someone speaking in the room. You knocked gently the door and you heard a clear come in from the room. You opened the door and saw a large group of people debriefing a mission.

You were not familiar with military ribbons, but as you can imagine the bald man was the most important. There were 4 more militars with different ribbons, one civilian and other doctor, a military one.

You introduced yourself quickly and took a free seat next to the civilian, the less intimidating of all of them.
