Leave it outside and it will freeze, answers Peter. We can hide him in the explosive shed.

Mario de Gusmão

- Aye, aye, Sir.

Mario kicks the body out of the vehicle, with little to no consideration.

The team makes sure that the station has power and take care to check the radar one last time. No activity in the area. No more surprises. They pack all gear necessary for the mission along with the explosives from the shed. Plenty of nylon rope, oxygen tanks and masks, provisions, flashlights, break lights, spare guns and ammo, several med bags and ten spare survival suits (for the crew of the rig).

When having loaded the three vehicles Watersdown locks the doors with a heavy chain and a padlock.

McArthur and Molotov take the smaller of the three vehicles while the women take command of the larger Station 10 snowmobile. Taverner, Gusmão and Bishop use the snow mobile the team brought from Valhalla. They have the scooter Hawkins used in tow.

Fifteen minutes of travel lies ahead.

Any precautions taken? How are you approaching the rig?

'We cant just rush in, they sure got some radar over there too' 'any of you know this rig?' 'ideally we should space out and the most adept on driving the scooter gets to play scout'

I drove one snowmobile following the instructions of the security staff. I felt strange leaving the corpse outside, but this is a situation when the security staff must take control and we must just obey.

I was not able to reply Mr. Taverner, thus I just glanzed at my partners, reduced the speed and waited the instructions. I suspected they know we are here. Actually there is nothing left to say from me.

Well, we could play it safe and come from three different directions. In that way, they should be forced to split.

'I think we got a chain of command here' 'what do you military guys say?' 'i will do whatever you say as you got some expertise in these things

Mario keeps a respectful silence, since he is probably the lowest rank here.

As the three snow mobiles and their crews have stopped to discuss a plan of action for how to - in the best way possible - get close to the rig, they lay out the plan in an impromptu tactical meet.
While Mario stays alert on their surroundings, McArthur takes charge.

I say I and Molotov moves in at a straight angle at high speed. We have the most camouflaged vehicle. The other two wait back here. If things look good, the ladies fall in from the right, from that hill slope over there. Gusmão and the rest of you provide cover with your rifles, should there be any hostile activity from the top of the rig.

From where you are located, you can see the rig and the evac heli at the top of the structure. Through binoculars you also see four bodies scattered at the base of the rig´s single pillar.

That said, McArthur dons his protective mask and says, Let´s roll!

We regroup at the base of the rig.

By the look of it we have lost Gazza, Hal and Pviz.
I´ll be NPCing them for the rest of the game.

We're far too many people, boss (meaning players). We'll probably fare better (=will be more agile) thus.

OK, I edited the preferences for the chapter. Now the players who have left receive updates, but can´t post. They have access to the OOC, though.
Also I set visibility to All Umbrians, in case someone else wants to read along.

Cheers!

The first snowmobile with McArthur and Molotov arrives to the base of the rig. From the location of the others the vehicle is dwarfed by the gigantic structure looming overhead. No movement is visible at the top of the rig.

The team observes McArthur and Molotov exit the snowmobile and wave - clear.

The two other vehicles start to cover the leg to the rig.

Balancing the need for speed with the need to not wreck the snowmobile, both teams get to where McArthur and Molotov examines the door to the cage lift leading up to the top of the rig.

"The latch has been frozen shut."

Up on the top of the platform 70 meters up, a gunshot is heard. Then all is quiet except from the snow quirking underneath their boots as they shift their weight.

The UNSF team has reached the destination.

The breathing masks are working properly. The radios have juice but sporadically lose frequency.
Taverner´s laptop with geologic data is operational and has 3 hours left on battery.

Over the radio inside their helmets the team members hear. "This is Daniels. Can anyone hear me? I...I´m down here. This is Daniels. Hello?"
