I agree Farris, the goal is to practice English. If the stories and the activities are entertaining, well that´s a bonus.

Thank you for the ideas, I´ll put them in a list of possible future tasks.

Just out of curiosity, everyone is commenting the stories here and not in the "Feedback"-scene here I don´t mind, just wondering if I´ve done something wrong with the options. Personally, I think the comments on the stories should go on a specific scene because it´s easier to find them after a period of time, but if you prefer we can just have a scene for the tasks and do the comments/feedback here in the Off-Topic.

At least in my case, I thought that you (the masters) had opened those scenes with the purpose of using them for the corrections only, so I thought that it would be inappropriate to use them to joke, or coment about aspects of the story that were not specifically about English.

To summarize: I thought that you would prefer comments that are not teaching something about English to be limited to the Off-topic.

@Faris Thank you for the explanation. The way I see it is that this whole workshop is a joint effort, where together we discuss and comment the tasks. The comments do not have to be just grammar checking - anything to do with the story is OK.

Furthermore, the "masters" here are just participants, we are not an authority by any means. In fact, some of the "player participants" are a level or two above when it comes to writing, and correcting, essays. But the scene for feedback is also a place to say "hey, what does this expression X mean?" or "I loved the story, where did you get the idea?".

So the comments were not meant to be limited to the Off Topic :)

Thank you for your comment, Faris! You are totally right :)

I didn't post in the Feedback scene because I saw that no one had commented on it, so I thought the same way as Faris ^^U I'll take it into account!

I´ve posted the Task nr4 and the Feedback scene, please shout if you cannot see it ;)

It´s called "Exquisite Corpse", but it´s not the Halloween theme yet. It´s a story we have to write together, and each participants continues where the previous one left off.

I have not put a title to the story. I think that´s best to do when it´s finished.

Ah, the task nr3 I´ve left it open in case someone wants to write. I will close it towards the end of the week.

Happy writing!

One question for Tingwe:

You mentioned about a couple of times a writing workshop, much like the one we have here, for writing in Spanish here in Umbria. Do you know where is it and if it still accepts players? I´ve been trying to be more disciplined about writing, and this sounds like it could help.

Yes, the link is: http://www.comunidadumbria.com/partida/taller-lite...

The workshop is really cool, it was started by the almighty Demiurge himself. The last few months it has been a bit on hold, but hopefully it picks up again starting October.

Sólo para el director

Yo también voy a pedir, muy a mi pesar, abandonar el taller. Me parece un gran recurso. Pero no le estoy pudiendo dedicar el tiempo que merece. :(

In theory the current task (Exquisite Corpse) ends this Sunday, but I guess we can extend the deadline a bit more. Not too far though, since the next task will have a Halloween theme so we have to start around October 20th the latest.

´The Halloween task should (hopefully) be a bit easier than the Exquisite Corpse. It's still under preparation/consideration but basically it will be writing task with a visual element (picture, drawing or photo) as a center piece. So it will provide a good incentive to practice adjectives :)

A silly question maybe... Shouldn't the tasks be marked as "Forum-Scenes"? Or is there a reason to do them as normal game scenes, and for everyone to have a PC character (usually with the same name as the player)?

Just curious, I inherited the first scenes set up like this and I've been doing them this way. But it's a bit of a pain in the *ss to go through all the PC and mark the options for each scene unless there is a reason for it.

I've never thought of it o.o I guess there's no reason. So, you can do what you want ^^

Haha, OK Mooneyes, no worries, I'll remember it :) I often mess up with the options (cough cough, the task that I forgot to open and was wondering why no one was participating cough), so I wanted to check first.

Thanks!

Today is the deadline for the Halloween stories. I really enjoyed reading them. I've been extremely busy for the last few weeks so I have not time to write feedback unfortunately.

I don't mind leaving the Halloween story activity open for another week or so, in case someone else wants to participate. Also I usually leave the Feedback scene open for longer than the activity.

As to the next activity, my idea was to squeeze in a simpler one from Nov 20th till Dec 20th, and then do something Christmas related. But I think we could skip that and go straight to the Christmas theme, and do the other one after the Holiday Season. I have not given much thought yet as to WHAT the Xmas task will be specifically, so I am open to any suggestions. Maybe a simple "Write a Christmas related story" or something more elaborate? Christmas with a twist? Each writing must include a Christmas carol or song as part of the story? A letter to Santa? A letter to yourself in the past when you were a child?

Wohooo!!! Christmas is nigh!!! I love Christmas so I'm already excited about this particular task :)

I must also apologize for my reduced activity lately, including the long delay in the preparation of the promised game in English. Recently I have gone through two major transitions in my Real LifeTM which kept me quite busy and occupied most of the time. Namely, a 180 degrees turn in my professional career and the 'pleasant' experience of house-hunting and mortgaging in Switzerland. For those of you interested, or curious enough (stalkers!) after reading who I am in the first task of this workshop, that means that I am definitely becoming a resident and mortgage owner (won't dare saying house owner until it fully belongs to my family and not to the bank) here in Switzerland next year; and that I will be transitioning from my past and current scientific positions to a completely different field and become a Talent Scout for Research and Development in the pharmaceutical company I work for :)

I have an idea but I don't know if I should say it because last Christmas I gave you my heart but the very next day you gave it away. So this year, to save me from tears, I'll give it to someone special.

... sorry, I had to.

Seriously now, what about a "Happy not Christmas". You have to describe, in your story, a celebration in a made-up culture (or a real one!) where you celebrate the same things as you usually do in Christmas (end of the old year, new incoming year,  beginnings, hope, even the birth of a significant figure...) but you're not allowed to resort to any canonical element of Christmas as we know them (trees, decorations, mongers, Santa Claus...).

Congratulations, saecel :DDD Very good news :DDD I have news too, and I got an Internship at an lawyer office in Madrid, so I will be able to practice at a real office *.* Very excited >.< XDXD So, I won\'t have much time forma Umbría and this, but I\'ll try to organize myself, my time and I hope to be able to do everything :DDDD
For the next task, then, I would like writing about Christmas :D It would be awesome :D Some short story, or something ^^ Or what Leonid says could be very interesting :D

Congratulations!!!

Saecel and Mooneyes, yours are really good news. Even it means you don't have much time for Umbria, it is for a very good cause.

I like Leonid proposal.  Or I think I like it if I understood it correctly. We have to devise a new celebration that has nothing to do with Christmas?

Or I think I like it, if I understand correctly
