Laura has a past she doesn´t talk about often. She knows Sinta from Canyon City, where they both worked at a saloon. Sinta told Hurd once she worked helping in the kitchen. What Laura did is a bit of a mystery, probably she has not told and Hurd has never asked for the details. But when Hurd met Laura, she was working in the Lucas Saloon in Sabbath as a saloon girl. More or less like a waitress, but she did not go upstairs with the men. She was a saloon girl, not a whore. Laura has class, but also she has a past. After Canyon City, she went to Tombstone. Then Ellsworth, where she met Hurd. And they came to Sabbath, but they were not together then. She was considered the prettiest girl in Sabbath when she arrived. But she has also seen life. As she likes to put it, “she has used up too many places”.

The relationship between Laura and Hurd is a complicated one as you can imagine. She is nice, and treats him well. And Hurd is kind and tender with her, but there is something missing. Maybe. This is not the life she had before, and maybe Hurd feels she could do better. Or that he is not good enough for her. Don´t know.

Wow, nice dialogue with Hurd & Laura. You get a hint of things but nothing too specific. Still important things happening to build up the situation where Hurd will have to make a choice when time comes.

BTW, Sheree North is the actress who plays Laura in the Lawman film, but unfortunately she doesn´t get nearly enough screen time.

Ah, if you feel the scene is fine as it is, let me know and I will close it.

Yeah, an intense night of revelations... Don't think poor Hurd's gonna sleep a lot tonight. I'm ok with closing the scene.

Funny, I was convinced Laura was the same actress that played the prostitute who gets her face cut in Unforgiven. Must've been the hat.

Would you be so kind to tell me what to roll or do in the scene? I'm kinda confused, as I can't see the pictures of the character sheets >_<

Initiative is 1d10 + 6 (your speed is 6). You have to decide if you bring your gun up to aim to get better accuracy, or if you shoot from the hip.

Hehe, no worries. Just roll 1d20 three times in the scene, I do the modifiers. Choctaw has started faster than you, so if you see him hit the target at least once, probably would be a good idea to try to shoot faster the last 3 shots. But for now, just roll 1d20 three times, OK?

Will I be able to participate, even if I ain't got the money? A hundred dollars seems a bit too much for me... My sheet says I've got like 19$.

Yeah, looks like Lucas is behind paying your wages hehe. You can participate and if you loose money it will be deducted from your wages. One thing I need to double check is the difference of "running a high stakes game" and "participating" in one. I think the "running" is for roulette and other games where there is a dealer. So you would participate even though you also organize the event.

My journey through the western genre continues :) So far I had watched:

*Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973), Sam Peckinpah
*The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976), Clint Eastwood
*High Noon (Fred Zinneman, 1952). Gary Cooper
*The Magnificent Seven (1960), John Sturges
*Open Range (2003), Kevin Costner
*310 to Yuma (2007), James Mangold
*Young Guns I (1988) Christopher Cain
*Young Guns II (1990), Geoff Murphy

I´ve purchased a few DVD´s from the El Pais selection (thanks aputor BTW), such as Pale Rider and this one:

*The Professionals (Richard Brooks, 1966)

I watched it yesterday. I had seen it a long time ago, and I remember I felt the cars in the beginning were odd, and in general it was not a "normal" western. However, the all star cast (Lee Marvin. Burt Lancaster, Robert Ryan and Woody Strodes, plus Claudia Cardinale of course) and good story and interesting characters made it a very enjoyable film. After seeing it again, I think it holds its own, but I would not consider it a truly great film. Entertaining yes. And Burt Lancaster plays a great character. You can tell the actors had fun doing the movie.

Hi guys. You are all in the same scene called "Business in Town". I´ll try something different here, so please pay attention :) You are all in Sabbath at the same time, but not in the same place. Instead of a lot of director/narrator explaining what is going are and where you are, what I´ll do is post as a NPC observing the scene. For instance, the hotel owner sees Maddox and how he walks out the hotel, and also catches a glimpse of Hurd going into the Registrar´s Office.

Obviously, you as the characters will not interact with someone you cannot see, and I cannot see any harm if you as the players are aware of where the other characters are. When posting, please do not include the characters that are with you.

Let´s see how it goes. Any questions, shoot  ask here (best not to try my luck with "shoot" hehe).

Guess I should post only for myself, and you'll narrate it then to everyone through the eyes of a NPC, right?

Yes, only to yourself if no other PC´s are around. In this case you could include Hurd as he is also on the street (about to enter the Registrar´s office but still around), but not Crowe as he has not arrived yet. But I can fix that with a "narrator-NPC".

One thing: the current time is the day after Maddox arrived, he has already slept one night in the hotel. He arrived the day before, brought Corman´s body, then there was a routine saloon night and now you were having breakfast with Lucas.

In Additional Content-scene there is a map of Sabbath:

Not hugely important, but it might be helpful to know where the characters are moving. To make things simpler (I have a feeling this scene can be a difficult one), everyone on street can interact with each other. So if Hurd is on the street and Mayer comes out and talks to someone, Hurd can/should be included in the post. Maybe he is too far away to hear what they are saying but at least he sees they are talking about something. If you wish to have a private conversation on the main street, you can post twice. One to say you approach to talk to someone (to all PCs), and another one to post the private conversation.

I have a few western films waiting (Django Unchained, True Grit, Pale Rider...) but instead I decided to have a look at a TV series Deadwood. I had heard good things about it, and the first 4 episodes were actually good. The pace is different from films, but as I was watching it, I thought it would make a great A&E game :) It has small businesses opening in a pioneer town, some gunfight action, prospecting, nice characters.

Has anyone watched Deadwood?
