-Let´s do it. We´ll start with Lucky. Price, Crowe… You´ll be the anchors. Take the hackamore and try to hold him still so I can put the saddle. Sinta, you´ll be the mugger. Try to distract him. Get in front of and talk to Lucky or something, just try to catch his attention so we can get into position.

- Sure, Vern...

Sinta moved towards Lucky. She was good with animals. That was one of the reasons cowboys liked her despite her small frame and little strength.

- Ssssh... ssssh... Lucky... it´s gonna be OK, bro... just look at me... that´s it... good boy... here, here, look at me... look at me... good boy...

Sinta´s words and her hands caressing the horse´s snout seemed to keep Lucky calm in spite of all the men planning unpleasant things around him.

That sounds easy enough

Without wasting another second, Crowe walks toward Lucky by one of the sides, taking advantage of the good distraction Sinta is turning out to be. Firmly, he holds the horse by the hackamore, hoping that putting the saddle on the animal wouldn't take long for Vernon.

The cowboys operated like clockwork, and the anchors were holding the horse in place for Vernon to put the saddle and try to ride Lucky. Vernon Adams was a veteran cowboy and an excellent rider, and he got the saddle in place with some help from Jason, and then jumped on the horse.

-YEEHAWW! Let him free guys!!, he yelled to the anchors and off he rode. -Out of the way Sinta, he laughed to the mugger. He was enjoying this. Lucky started bucking and jumping, but after about twenty minutes, the horse calmed down... It was now broken, and ready to accept riders. -This one is a good horse overall, Price. Not too temperamental.

-Let´s do Bolt?, Vern asked. Bolt was Crowe´s choice. A Thoroughbred that seemed a lot more nervous than Lucky.

The cowboys did the same routine for the other horse that needed breakin´ But Bolt was more difficult to control, and it kicked Price hard while bucking back and forth. Soon Crowe had to let go of the hackamore as well. Sinta managed to calm Bolt down, but both anchors had failed.

Breaking a horse was hard work, and the three cowboys took a break before trying again with Bolt.

-Need a hand?, Jason asked with a sly smile on his face. He seemed pleased to see the three fail with the thoroughbred, or maybe he was simply eager to get involved. -Hey, Crowe, pass me the other hackamore would ya?

Sure thing - he replied, giving Jason another hackamore that was laying around. Of course, his horse had to be the rebel one. Things going south for him, or at least difficult enough, weren't news. At least that was the way he learn liked it. 

Hurd Price had fallen to the ground in their first attempt, and was now all covered in mud. But with the help of Jason, the four got Bolt ready for the saddle. Vernon was tired, but he got on the horse and finished the job.

Both horses were ready now for their riders.

-OK, we´re done for today, Vern said and removed the riding gloves. -Hit the sack, or hit the town. Whatever you wish, it´s up to you. But prepare your kit and caboodle¹. Tomorrow noon we will round-up the cows. And then we can start the cattle drive. It´s time to saddle up, guys!
