Looks like I'll have to read the poker rules carefully. I'm used to play Texas Hold 'em...
Bluffing: that´s a very good point :) I was thinking of simply rolling a "reaction roll" for the NPCs, but to avoid GM cheating or partiality, today I started playing around with some modifiers and basic rules.
I´ve just updated the Poker section with "House Rules". I ran some tests on an Excel sheet and they seemed to do the trick, but we´ll see. The basic idea is that 1) player without gambling skill cannot fold (so no point bluffing a novice, this is actually in the basic A&Erules), 2) a gambling skill check is done and the quality or strength of the hand makes it easier or more difficult to fold, and also the amount of chips in play.
One way or the other, it´s an abstraction of "real" poker play, but at least there is a clear set of rules and I do not have to decide for the NPCs knowing all the cards.
Texas Hold ´Em => for some reason it was not (apparently) not that popular in the Western period, they played more the "bluff" poker with five cards hidden. But the poker hands are the same. Still you need to study a bit :)
Also, everyone starts with just 10 chips (the value of each chip may vary), this is to make it relative short minigame (3-4 hands of poker). As I mentioned, we would do the poker mechanics in the Poker Room scene, and the reactions and roleplaying can be done in the appropriate scene (if they happen simultaneously). If the poker game (or other gambling) takes place in between scenes, it can all be done in the Poker scene.
In addition to Mayer, any other PC can also play to test the mechanics. For instance, Choctaw and Jack went to Thackersville after the initial scene, so they could have played poker or other games there. Hurd and Sinta have also had time in between scenes. Also one option to make (or loose) some money is to play Chuck-A-Dice or similar "one roll" gambling game.
Jack is too conservative to risk losing money that way (which is what happens or gambling houses would not be the business they are). It's good to have something different from shoot rules, nevertheless.
I have only 1.17$???
I must have 11.17$, or not?
Weird, your character sheet is still out of date... I could swear I uploaded the new ones for all PCs. I will do it when at home, sorry
Hi everyone... Sorry for the late again... My mother has suffered an accident and she has broken her leg. I have been with her and I have to do all houseworks. Now I'm working again and I haven't time to post... I'm so sorry but I don't want to bother anyone. Master, if you want or need, you can npcing Hurd.
I hope to come again as soon as possible.
No problems Hurd, let me know when you are "back in the saddle" :)
Hola.
Tengo algunos problemas personales y no podre seguir con la partida porque tengo ahora otras prioridades. Lo siento de veras. Un saludo.
Hi all, I just posted in the Announcements that I won´t be able to post till Monday. Also Ezekiah (=Crowe) has informed me that due to some personal issues he cannot continue with this game. So we are down to five players. This will not affect the current scenes, but for the story as a whole I might post in the forum to see if I can get one or two more players to join.
Back in the saddle... One day later than expected, I got a stomach flue as a souvenir from my long weekend in Madrid. I just posted in the Announcements about the next few months that I will post every 3-4 days instead of every 1-2 days, so don´t worry if you do not get a post immediately. If the situation gets worse, I will let you know.
On the other topic, I will post to see if I can find a substitute for Crowe. If not, we can carry on with Crowe as NPC.
That was quick! A new player will take charge of Crowe.
Hurd, how are things with you? Your scene is with Sinta who has difficulties with Internet access during the next few weeks, but post when you can.
Should the OffTopic be "Escena de Foro"? I find it confusing to talk to players but to see character's faces... especially different players with the same character's face. 0:-)
OK if all agree I can change the Off-Topic to Forum scene, so each player posts as a player and not as their character.
Any objections?
I'm ok with it.
Secondly, we have a girl? Oh. My. Godness. It's not a myth! xD
Welcome, miss, have fun :-)
