Major Davis said to Smith

"Check West. I'm gonna check east"

And he began to go east though the forest with his gun ready to open fire.

I suddenly stepped back with that metallic clonk. Stared for a few seconds at the monolith, and finally touched it. To give even a more dramatic sense to the scene, I kept my hand over the surface of the "stone", as I started enunciating the words. Slowly. Pronouncedly.

- Here lies in prison for all the eternity the conqueror of worlds.

Nice. What the hell did that mean? Was that some kind of tomb? The hammer at the top was an obvious reference to Mjölnir. Could it be possible that the strange aliens found at Abydos were not only using Egyptian religion, but also Nordic?

- That's weird. The armours of the attackers we saw on the video resembled Egyptian motifs, not Nordic. Maybe they have different religions as alienation tools? Anyway, if this monolith is some kind of prison for a god-like alien, maybe we shouldn't mess with it.

The stone was surprisingly cold to the touch and it didn't feel as a stone, the touch was closer to some kind of polished steel or cupper. When Keyran touched the monolith a light coming from his hand started to climb following some kind of pulsating energy veins along the strange structure.

Suddenly, a red light beam went over Keiran's body.

You don't have any problem with your recon tour. You can talk with your mates at the stargate and with Major Davis who is going  East.

When you were about to return you find a strange footprint. It's located nearly 400 hundred meters away from the camp in a zone were the forest is not as closed as near the gate. The size is bigger than an human, it could be like a 52 or 53 european shoe size.

There is only two or three footprints and the track disappear

I knelt and checked the footprints. There were only three of them, what a strange thing. I took my radio transmitter and tried to stablish communication.

Major Davis, Jenkins reporting, ¡over!

I'll wait for an answer. I didn't know if I could communicate due to the magnetic field, but I needed to try.

Your handheld radio clicked and Major Davis started to respond

"Copy that!. Something interesting? It seems that the jamming camp is only affecting north. Sergeant Smith, do you copy?"

I've found some footprints here, Major. But they are a bit strange. They are bigger than usual, maybe from a man more than 2 meters tall. But the stranger thing is that there are only 3 of them, then dissapear. I can't follow the track further than these three footprints. ¡over!

I waited observing the surroundings. Maybe the owner of these footprints were close and watching.

A wide red light beam came from the hammer impacting your body. You can feel a warm sensation on your skin

Latimer opened fire instinctively toward the hammer but unfortunately bullets didn't work against it....

After 5 seconds of true panic you realized that the beam was aparently innocuous for you. Then the hammer threw another light beam over Latimer with the same effect.

10 second later the hammer was deactivated and you were looking yourself trying to guess what had happened to you.

While you were talking you heard a machine gun blast coming from the stargate.

"The stargate is under attack!!!. Move!! Move!! Move!!!"

Damn  - I shouted. I turned back to the Stargate as fast as I could across the forest. The base camp could be under attack and if they capture or kill the scientists, it would be our fault absolutely. I ran and ran towards the Stargate.

I waked away from the monolith and looked around.

- I'm OK guys. Not sure what this light is for. But it doesn't look harmful.

I turned around, looking for something else. Started checking again the monolith, focusing on the base. There must be something else.

Sam inspected the western sector without noticing anything remarkable: Trees, trees and more damned trees.

Sam received all the radio messages from Major Davis and thuLieutenant Jenkins copying all their messages. Sam walked through a zigzagging course and he noticed that when he went north from the monolith all communication were lost and the effect lasted along a straight line comming from the monolith.

Then he heard the machine gun blast coming from the stargate and he ran towards the gate ready to repel the attack.

Jenkins was the first military who arrived to the stargate. Being the first one of his promotion didn't come for free.

He found Captain Latimer and Keiran panting and looking scared at the hammer. They seemed to be OK but doctor Davis was looking for evidences of the effect of the ray in them.

Finally, Major Davis and Sergeant Smith came out of the forest with their weapon ready to shoot. But there wasn't any evident threat right now

Major Davis went directly to Captain Latimer and asked her for an explanation...

"What the hell had happened, Latimer?. Are the civilians OK?"

Latimer reported to Major Davis as professionally as she could

"Sir, Doctor Byrne was inspecting the monolith when a kind of laser beam struck us. I reacted instinctively and I shot to the hammer but it has resisted the burst, it seems to be a really resistent material. Doctor Byrne has translated the message from the monolith and Doctor Davis has ended mounting the medical tent. Your orders, sir?"

Major Davis thinked for a while

"Doctor Byrne, please don't touch anything else if you don't have an order to do it..... you and Latimer I thinked that you have a free ride to the medical tent. Doctor Davis, please keep and eye in our men".

"Smith, Jenkins, it's time to mount our camp... I agree with you, I don't like the idea to camp here but I don't want to lose the possibility to contact to the SGC. We are going to plant our cleymores around the camp and mount double guards, one at the monolith and other in the upper side of the quarry. 2 hours of guard, 2 hours of rest. Let's move, team"

Doctor Davis called Latimer and Keiran from her medical tent. She was warmly smiling, as a dentist before a visit..

"Ok, guys... time to a quick check. Don't be afraid, Florence nightingale is ruder than me"

I followed the orders of Major Davis and I approached to the MALP and started to take the stuff to mount the camp. Tents, ammunition, food,...

Sergeant. Plant the claymores around on a 50 meters perimeter. We aware from the south part of the forest. As I said before I've seen footsprint of a huge man-shape creature.

I would mount the tents while Sergeant Smith assured the camp.

Sergeant Smith looked at Lieutenant Jenkins with something strange in his gaze... Was it anger? Was it hate? It was difficult to say because Smith was a man of few words. He just replied

"Yes, sir, I'm on my way"

He thinked "I only have basic training with explosives but it should be a piece of cake. Just planting the mine and remove the security ring to activate it."

After some work Sergeant Smith couldn't plant 4 of the mines due to technical problems. The ring didn't left its place with a gentle push and he was taught that it was safer to leave these mines to someone better prepared.

When he finished his work he reported directly to Lieutenant Jenkins

"Sir, I have planted 6 of our 10 mines. I have had problems with 4 and I don't have the training to install them safely, sir. They are located in this locations" Said pointing the location with his finger in a drawn map

Captain Latimer tapped Keiran's shoulder and smiled warmly at him

"I see. Ladies first, uh??. I didn't know that you were scared of doctors. I'm on my way Doc."

Doctor Davis made a professional quick recognition on her: blood pressure, eye pupils reactiveness and a blood sample to compare with the samples taken from Earth.
