When you passed by the monolith the sounds of the quarry invaded your ears, specially the "kind" greetings from Major Davis.

He spited, more than talked, a furious sermon at the recon team

"I hope that you have a good explanation for not copying my messages. I was about to send Latimer for you.... and I fucking need Latimer here to open the door...... Something to add?"

He stared both soldiers waiting for their explanation.

Sorry Major. We lost communication inside the forest. We were unable to establish a channel with you, sir. It seems there were some interferences or so that prevented communications. But it's not all bad news sir. We found a shelter in a clearance inside the forest. A man and maybe a child lives there. We've not established contact with him and came back here to inform and ask further orders.

I hoped my explanations would convince the Major and avoid a scolding.

Major Davis looked at Jenkins with perplexity in his eyes.

"Are you saying that our radio transmitters don't work properly in this planet? When and where did you lost contact?"

He thinked for a while and the he told Latimer

"Latimer, leave the gate opening operation to Doctor Keyran. I think he can handle the problem, we are having some kind of radio jamming. Can you fix it?"

I took Latimer's tablet and started looking for the correct symbols.

- Sure, I can handle this.

I found the first one, and pressed it, 27. Then the other 5 to call Earth; 11, 19, 26, 16, 25.  And finally the origin, 32. Then I crossed my fingers, expecting the Stargate to open at home. Took the comm and reported it.

- I've dialled the sequence. I expect it to be right.

And then, I expected confirmation.

The team hold their breath while Keiran began to dial the address in the device....

Keiran pushed the chevrons with surgical precision and the door answered his movements locking one chevron by a time. When he entered the seven chevron he pushed the central red button with conviction.

The stargate created a stable wormhole. The question was... Where?

Major Davis took his radio transmitter and said

"SGC, SGC. We are SG-21, you copy?"

The radio clicked twice before receiving an answer from the other side

"SG-21, Copy that!. We are receiving a strong signal. Do you have any information about our man?"

Major Davis shook his head before answering the question

"Not yet. We are not alone in the planet but we haven't found any track of our sneaky-head friends. We will report in 24 hours' time. Davis out!"

And then the door shut down.

He asked Jenkins and Smith

"Ok then, What can you tell me about our neighbour guys?

Once we assure the dialing was correct, I answered to Major Davis

Our neighbour is a tall man. A big one. He seems bad nourished due to his external appearance, but he has a strong body. A sound that sounded like the cry of a baby came from inside the shelter. Nothing special around the shelter. He didn't seem hostile, but I can't assure it.

I clapped my hands once, happy to see the wormhole opened. And then I turned back, searching for the monolith.

- Guys, is the area secure? Can I go inspect the big stone over there?

Didn't want to call it monolith, maybe too scientific for my military friends.

When Major Davis finished the connection with the SGC he replied to Keiran

"Have a look at it, Doctor, and try to find out if it's the origin of our communication issues. Latimer help him and try to shut down the damn thing"

Captain Latimer moved quickly to the stone. She took out an analyzer device from her pocket and she began the inspection.

"Sir, there is a small radiation reading, gamma rays and positrons to be more exact, nothing dangerous. There is also a small magnetic field but if it's the responsible of the problems with our handheld devices it could be impossible to shut down. The technology is incredible advanced....I'm sorry but I can't do it anything. We can try to use C4 to blow up the column but the consequences could be unexpected. Doctor you can inspect the monolith, I think it's completely sure"

The monolith had a lot of burned ground around it, but only in the furthest part to the stargate. The stone was quite tall and heavy and it have 4 different carvings, one in each side, written in a different language.

Major Davis talked to Jenkins and Smith

"I don't like the possibility of being uncommunicated between us and with the SGC. We will open in fan formation to check our coverage area. We know for sure that we lose communication going north, we will check east, south and west... it will be difficult because the forest is quite closed but it's important to mantain contact every 50 meters. We will advance for 500 meters and then we are going to come back. Let's move guys!"

Yes sir. I'll take south.

I move to south way to the forest. I move silently. We knew that the planet was inhabited and the tall man probably would not be the only one there.

I nodded at Latimer's request and headed there.

- Sure thing.

I got to the monolith and started reading the symbols. It looked like there were different languages. Although not all of them resembled to alphabets from Earth. I tried not to touch it. I didn't Latimer's comments on radiation. Even though I knew it was secure, I'd rather not be exposed to alien technology.

Keiran examined carefully the Monolith, spinning and dancing around the stone.

The runic alphabet was definitely nordic. Ancient nordic to be more exact, but with slightly differences. For instance, the common representation of the group "TH" was a single rune and they use two runes for that.. but with the help of the computers and the books downloaded previosly it was easy to translate.

The other languages weren't from Earth. Maybe this stone was the Earth's equivalent of the Rosseta's Stone.

When Keiran was ending his job , Captain Latimer touched with her gun the stone and a metallic sound came from the "stone".
