After the blast from Hurd´s shotgun, everything was quiet for a split second. Then the gunfight carried on. Crowe was firing at the bandito closest to Harvey, so on that side it was two against one. Sinta had reduced the distance and was already aiming with her rifle at the other thief, closest to Hurd and his shotgun.

Hurd was a bit nervous. He just killed the Indian and he was very angry. But he must to protect Mr.Bronson's livestock. He didn't want to kill anyone but It was necessary.

Anyway, the thieves were still hanging around. Hurd take a big breath to get relax before he act.

Hurd observed that Crowe and Harvey were firing at Bandido and then, he ran towards thieves with his shotgun prepared with a second shot.

Hurd is moving behind the two cattle thieves that are both facing the foreman Harvey. The thief further away hits Harvey in the chest with his Remington 1875 model. BANG! He goes down heavy, and drops everything. He is lying face down on the ground, and he does not move.

Crowe is behind the foreman, and could that see the bullet hit him in the chest. It looked nasty. He fires at the other bandito but misses again!

Sinta is ready to fire her rifle...

Sinta fires her rifle, and curses as she thinks she had missed. Only when she sees the thief go down to the ground holding his stomach she realizes that she had hit him in the stomach.

The bandit drops his gun and his fells to the ground, with a bullet lodged somewhere close to his ribs.

BLAAMMM!! As the thief falls down, Hurd blasts away with his shotgun! Pellets rip through his hand, one hits the head... But the one that really hurts goes to the poor guy´s groin. He screams in pain and drops everything. He rolls on the ground, holding his crotch with both hands.

Crowe tries to fire before the other bandit shoots at him. The two are less than 15 feet apart in this deadly game, and both are about to fire! BANG! Crowe fires first, and hits the bandit in the chest. It´s only a scratch, but if forces him to take a step back, and Crowe has a chance to finish him off now!

Hurd: He fires his shotgun at Thief #2 on count 98, almost coinciding with Sinta´s shot (the thief is still going down to the ground when he gets hit!) Modifiers: Accuracy -2, Aim +4, Range (less than 20 feet) +4 = +6.

Shotgun shot clock: it works different, there is a random dispersion pattern for the pellets. 1st roll 1d4 is for the rotation of the special shotclock, and then the center is moved according to the accuracy. And finally you count the pellets that hit (usually different parts of the body). As the range is less than 20 feet, the following pellets count: black, red, blue, green and purple.

Hurd is slightly off with his aim, but still the following pellets hit (1d4 damage each):

hand: 1 blue, 1 red = 1+1 = 2 HP
arm: 1 black = 1 HP
head. 1 red = 4+(1-1)=4 (-3 DEX)

Crowe fires at the bandit. It´s his last shot, and he aims for the chest but hits the left shoulder and rips through flesh and comes out from his back. The bandit goes down and drops his gun!

The Indian is but a corpse, and the other thief is crawling and crying in pain. Behind the bandit, Hurd is about to reload his shotgun, and Sinta has her rifle almost ready also. It looks like this scrape is nearly over...

So it´s 13 Counts for one shell, or 15 for both. And then you can bring the weapon up (4) and select target. The remaining Bandito is about 35 feet away from you. Hurd had to reload his gun after shooting to the thief. But he should do it quickly because the bandit was lurking. - Shit ... - Hurd went out and was aware of the bandit could shoot him before he could reload at the right time.

Hurd reloads one shell to his shotgun while he looks at the bandito Crowe shot down with his last shot. He was going for his gun, but suddenly stops as he realizes his friend is also down and crawling on the ground. Still kneeling, he raises his hands up in the air.

Foreman Stenbaugh is lying unconscious, face down.

Close by, Sinta walks slowly towards the other thief, who stops crawling and looks up at the woman towering above him. His breathing is heavy, and he is badly wounded. The shotgun pellets hit him in the head, hand, arm and groin. He looks down at his own stomach to see the profuse bleeding. And then up at Sinta again...

The worst wounds this thief has are the shot he received from Sinta to the abdomen, and one of the pellets that hit his groin. It´s possible he is suffering from internal bleeding.

Can I diagnose him like this, or do I need to drop my aim and touch him? If the latter, the bastard may as well go to hell. I am not coming near him unless he is cuffed or tied. :-D

Sinta´s eyes are cold when she observes the bandit looking over the front sight of her rifle. The stomach wound looks nasty and could easily infect, and there is a big chance the bullet is somewhere inside and difficult to retrieve. And there is the other wound in the groin. His face is going pale, and his hands tremble. The shotgun pellet went deep, and would be difficult to remove even if it does not infect. There is also a deep bleeding wound in the head, and other parts of his body that were hit, but the two really dangerous wounds are the one in the stomach and in the groin. Dangerous and deadly. It would be a miracle if he lives for more than a few hours.

To find out more about the wound, you need to see it (not necessarily touch it). At this moment, the bandit is holding his stomach, and the clothing and movement makes it difficult to see clearly. The rule is that to know more about a wound (eg. profuse bleeding, possible lodged bullet...), a character needs to observe the wound for one second per severity level. So a hit that caused 6 HP damage you would need 6 seconds (60 Counts) to get an idea of what could be happening. This is simply a superficial examination ("the bleeding is intense", "I think there might be broken bones"), it does not tell anything about internal bleeding and such.

In this case, the problem is the distance and that the guy keeps moving. I will roll Observation for you, Average difficulty (+40%).

-Eh, Hurd… Crowe says while he finished reloading his six shooter. -Can you go and have a look at Harvey, he is not moving. I´ll keep on eye on this one here.

His voice was trembling ever so slightly. The young cowboy had seen Hurd attend to young calves at the ranch, so maybe he could help the foreman. Harvey had been like an uncle to him ever since he could remember, and Crowe had seen him go down after he got hit in the chest.

Crowe points at the bandit kneeling in front of him. –Sinta, ya reckon we ought to tie ´em up? At least this one here.

Crowe nodded and aimed his gun at the bleeding man on the floor. Sinta lowered her carbine and moved to take care of the boss.

Friends first, even if they are NPCs! :-)

Sinta will spend as much as time as needed to nurse Harvey (if necessary, maybe the scene is over). Afterwards, if there is time left, she will propose to tie the thief´s hand behind his back and his legs and will inspect his wounds too.

Oh, of course. I can have a look at him... - Hurd replied when Crowe told him to have a look at Harvey.

Hurd knew a lot about how to care for animals, but did not know if He could do so well with people. However, he approached Harvey and he did as much as he could do.

Crowe watches over both remaining bandits while Hurd and Sinta look after Harvey. The one that is bleeding on the ground, and the other one kneeling. The one bleeding heavily is now weeping and opening his mouth for more air. But the other one is in a better shape, and Crowe thinks he might as well tie him up to be sure.

He is also thinking of riding to get some help for Harvey, if his wounds are very serious. Crowe doesn´t know anything about medical care or nursing.
