Harvey knows he is too far away, but fires his Colt and runs towards the bandits knowing that he had missed. -Let´s git ´em bastards, he yells trying to get his companions to follow. Harvey knows he needs to reduce the distance. The bandit returns fire at Harvey and also misses, and moves forward. It´s almost impossible to hit from 100 feet away with a pistol.

Behind the two bandits, the Indian has reached the rifle and Crowe fires at him from far away, missing the mark completely. Hurd is coming down the slope, and has the Indian with his back turned against him. He is about to aim with his shotgun.

The other thief fires at Sinta, and also misses.

COUNT UP: (...) 27Shot #1 Harvey, 28,29Shot #1 Bandito, 30,31,32,33,34Shot #1 Crowe,35,36,37Shot #1 Thief #2,38,

Harvey fires his Colt Navy deliberately at bandit #1 on Count 27, and runs forward (+5 counts)

Bandito #1 => He has his Peacemaker ready to shoot at Harvey (count 26) after taking careful aim, (+3 cock and fire), so he fires on count 29 and moves forward (+5 counts). The distance between Harvey and the bandits is around 60 feet.

Sioux: at Count 19 he has walked 5 feet towards the rifle, he starts to run +6 count for 10 feet, total 15 feet at count 25, and by count 28 he reaches the rifle, and +5 counts to pick up the weapon (count 33). He wants to aim at Harvey (+4 counts) taking careful aim (+10 counts), count 50 he will fire.

Crowe: he has drawn his gun and is aiming at the Indian (27), he fires deliberately (+4 counts) and shoots (+3 counts) at count 34, just as the Sioux has grabbed the rifle from the ground. Then he advances (+5 counts). It´s a 1d20, long distance. I will roll for Crowe, miss.

Thief #2 => Also has taken careful aim, on count 34 he will shoot at Sinta (cock and fire +3), shot goes off on count 37.

Sinta: she fired deliberately at one of the Bandits (Thief #2) on 28, but missed. To cock and fire again is 10 counts, so she can shoot again on count 38. Please roll 1d20 if OK, or let me know if you wish to reduce the distance.

Hurd: he starts his action on Count 17, he walks down the slope (20 counts) and then runs towards the Indian and the rifle on the ground (6 counts, 10 feet). Count 43 he is about 50 feet away. Please confirm if you want to catch their attention by yelling? It does not look as if there is any chance to negotiate...

EVERYONE: please remember the time is measured in "counts", each count is 1/10 of a second. So when I write "+3 counts" it means that the action takes that time, it´s not a bonus to any rolls.
Initiative roll (at the beginning) is a 1d10. All other shooting and ability checks are rolled 1d20.

The initial distance was maybe too far away for pistols, but it is important to show how difficult it is to hit someone far away.

Sinta Custer

Damn! Sinta, that was the worst shoot you have ever shot. You are better than that!

She could hear his father voice in her head: "Look for a steady surface, aim, and shoot. Steady, aim, shoot".

Sinta drops to the floor, rests her elbows on the floor and shoots again at the bandit. The shot barely misses his left knee.

Sinta shot on 28. She cocks the carbine (+10), drops to the floor (+3), and fires deliberately (+8) on count 49.

That's more than 2 seconds after the first shot (28 + 2 x 10 = 48) so she does not get penalised; she is firing at the same guy, so she gets a +1; plus another +2 for aiming prone, +4 for aiming deliberately, -2 for first gunfight, +0 for shooting in front of me, for a total bonus of +5 (if I am doing things right). No, wait, I have another -1 for range, so it is +4.

I shoot for 14. That is a near miss... but it is a hit!

I draw a card: it is a 4 of clubs. If I understand the shotclock correctly, my shot goes off near the bandito's left leg, but does nothing.

And if I shoot deliberately, I roll a D20, but I should substract 8 oints from the result...right?

From the reference sheet (the tutorial scene):

Cocking and Firing => 3 counts

Moving (running) towards the Indian => 10 feet / 6 counts

Shooting deliberately => 4 counts, + 2 to Accuracy.

So if you were to run towards the Indian, and then aim to fire deliberately and cock and fire, in total it would cost you 13 counts and the shot would happen on Count 47 (your last shot was fired on Count 34). The counts do not modify the "to hit-roll", the count is only to know at what moment the action happens.

Firing is always 1d20 and it´s modified by Accuracy modifiers (for instance, Firing deliberately gives you +2).

Sinta fired at the thief on her left, barely missing the leg.

The shot gave him a small scare, but the bandit was tough. As Sinta was very far away, he decides to stay where he is but starts aiming at Harvey instead. The foreman is running towards the other bandito who is also moving forward.

Hurd is behing the Indian with his shotgun, who is aiming at Harvey also. The foreman is about to get shot by all three bandits.

COUNT UP: (...) 38, 39CROWE?,40,41,42,43HURD?, 44,45,46,47,48,49Sinta shot #2

Crowe: after shooting on count 34, he advances (5) reducing the distance. Count 39. The distance to the Indian is about 80 feet, and to the Thief #2 less than 60 feet. Bandit #1 is on your right moving towards Harvey, distance 30 feet approximately. Please confirm action.

Hurd: he walked down the slope on count 37, then ran towards the Inidian. Count 43 you are about 50 feet away.
Please confirm if you still want to catch their attention by yelling? Or if you wish to aim with your shotgun at the Indian and fire.

Sinta: you fired on count 49 (38+11 for kneeling down and taking careful aim, EDITED). The distance was less than 90 feet so no -1 there. You did not specify the location, but I assumed you aimed for the chest. You can decide where to aim (eg. head, chest, stomach). As a house rule we can say that if not specified, we always aim for the chest. But the shotclock can be placed with the center anywhere you wish, you can aim at the gun the opponent is holding, his left knee, his sombrero, whatever.

Suit: Clubs => downwards. 1d4 => 1=Hearts, 2=Clubs, 3=Spades,4=Diamonds
Specific direction: in theory, you draw a card... To simulate this, my idea was:
1d12 => 1=Ace,2,3,4,5,6,7,8... 9 is either 9 or 10 (reroll 1d2), 10=J, 11=Q,12=K
What you did, was roll 1d20 and ignore results above 13 for a "1d13". Also valid option.
You got a 4, so yes, the shot barely misses the left leg. As it is close, FLINCHING rules apply and the opponent has to check against Wisdom for selfcontrol. He passes.

Sioux: after taking careful aim, on count 50 he will fire at Harvey who is moving towards the bandits.

Thief #2 => shot at Sinta on count 37, missed. Decides to aim at Harvey instead (4) taking careful aim (10) and cock and fire (5), Count 56

Harvey: he is running towards bandit #1 to reduce the distance (15 counts, 25 feet) Count 52 he stops and starts aiming holding the gun with both hands (aim 4, steady aim, 2) to shoot on Count 63

Bandito #1 => He keeps walking (20) towards Harvey and the distance is reduced to 40 feet. on count 49.
He starts aiming (4), taking careful aim (10) and will fire on count 65.

Crowe: it´s very very difficult to hit the Indian 80 feet away with your pistol. The other bandit is only 30 feet away, moving towards Harvey on your right. I will give the modifiers for both and you decide:

Indian: range (80 feet) -12, Careful aim +3, 2nd shot same target +1, Experience -2 => total -10. You would shoot on Count 54 but would need to roll 20 to hit.

Bandit: range (25 feet) -2, careful aim +3, experience -2 => total -1. You would shoot on Count 58. You could also move a few feet towards the target and remove the -2 penalty for distance, and you could shoot on Count 63 with +1 modifier.

Please choose target and location, and roll 1d20, if the result with the modifier is 14 or more, please roll also 1d4 and 1d12 plus damage 1d4.

Why do I shoot on 38 and not on 49? What did I count wrong? :-)

Yes, 49 is correct, it was a typo (I was going to add the 8 counts for aiming etc) but did not change the count. You had done the math correctly. Edited that.

Also... do I not get a penalty if I shoot twice in less than 2 secs?

Yes, if you had fired on Count 38 you would have gotten that penalty, and also no bonus for firing deliberately. You fired on Count 49 with the accuracy bonus for aiming, and also it was more than 20 counts from your first shot.

Arg... I'm so far away from the Indian... Maybe I could catch his attention first. - Hey ya! What, what, what!? - Hurd exclaim louder. He's intention was to be nearer... Or frighten him.

Notas de juego

I'm studying the mechanics carefully before acting... I find it difficult to understand but then I would try to fire at the Indian. Now I prefer to catch his attention because Hurd isn't just a person who shoots deliberately. Although... If Bronson's animals are in trouble... Hurd will act.

Hurd moves towards the Indian, raising his shotgun. The bandit turns around quickly, and stares at the two barrels pointing at him. He is holding his rifle on the side, and he is trying to think of options. The whole cattle stealing business was getting way out of hand, but after what the foreman said, there was no way out. The punishment for stealing branded cows was a hanging, and as an Indian he could not expect any favors from the judge or jury.

The distance is about forty feet, but Hurd is getting closer step by step. A shotgun at close range is really deadly. Then suddenly more shots are fired behind the Indian!

The thief that had been firing at Sinta now fires at the foreman Harvey, who is quickly moving towards the other bandit pointing his gun. The bullet does not hit, and Harvey does not even flinch. He is determined to get close enough to the bandit in front of him. Another shot is fired by Crowe. The bandit in front of Harvey is also moving forward. When there is less than 30 feet between the two, Harvey grabs his gun with both hands and fires, only a split second before the bandit. The foreman aims for the gun to disarm the bandit, but the shot goes wide and hits him in the stomach.

All the gunshots behind the Indian make him nervous, and when his compadre yells in pain, he makes his move! He raises the rifle to aim and shoot at Hurd, hoping for the Bronson´s man to miss with the shotgun.

Crowe: he changed target for his 2nd shot and tries to shoot at Bandit #1 on his right about 30 feet away, on Count 58. And missed

Hurd: Count 43 Hurd is about 50 feet away. He aims at the Indian (4) and slowly walks closer (20 counts, 10 feet unless something happens) and while he does that, he catches his attention.

Sioux: after taking careful aim, on count 50 he was going to fire at Harvey, but he hears Hurd behind him on Count 48 and quickly turns around (3).
So on Count 51 he is facing Hurd, who is talking to him and slowly moving forward and pointing with a shotgun.
The Indian has the rifle on his side, he could hipshoot or bring it to aim. He goes for the 2nd optin, from count 63 (+4 to bring to aim) and +3 to shoot the first shot, without aiming. So Count 66

Hurd => I guess you fire your shotgun, please roll 1d20 and specify location

Sinta: you fired on count 49 (shot #2). The distance was less than 90 feet.
Please confirm action.

Harvey: he is running towards bandit #1. On count 52 he stops and starts aiming holding the gun with both hands
(aim 4, steady aim, 2) to shoot on Count 63. He aims for the gun the guy is holding, but hits the stomach, 3 HP, no additional effect. Flinching: he misses by 1 and gets +1 speed penalty to his action, in addition to +1 and -1 accuracy due to HP loss.

Bandito #1 => He keeps walking (20) towards Harvey and the distance is reduced to 40 feet. on count 49.
He starts aiming (4), taking careful aim (10) and will fire on count 65, but gets hit and has to start aiming again (+2 speed penalty+10) so Count 73 and -1 Accuracy

Crowe: you fired on Count 58. Taking aim again (10) & moving to reduce distance (10) & cocking and firing (5) mean that your next shot was fired on Count 73. Accuracy modifiers: +3 careful aim, -2 for not having gunfight experience, +1 for 2nd shot at the same target, +2 range (less than 20 feet, you both have moved) = +4 total. You rolled 11+4=15. It´s close! I need to use the shot clock. You aimed for the chest, please roll 1d4 and 1d12 for direction, and 1d4 for damage.

BLAAMM!! The shotgun blast was deafening, and literally wiped the Indian off his feet. Dozens of pellets ripped through his legs like knife through butter, and both of his legs were now but a bloody pulp. He had pellets in his groin and his arm as well. He immediately lost consciousness, and the injuries were horrendous. There was no way he was going to survive Hurd´s shot.

On the other side of the bandits, Sinta fired and missed again, and decided to run quickly to get closer.

The thief that had not yet moved fired again at Harvey, and this time the hit was in the head. The bullet made a nasty looking scratch in his forehead, and caused Harvey to stumble just a little. But he kept his cool and kept on aiming at the other bandit. That bandit was closer to Harvey, but before he fired at the foreman, Crowe shot him with his Colt Navy. His shot went wide to the right, missing the arm by a feet.

The bandit did not do much better as the bullet was a dud. Slowly, Harvey pointed at the bandit, and with his face covered in blood, he aimed to finish him off. He hits him in the head this time, and gets him on the cheek.

Hurd: Fires his shotgun just before the Indian, on Count 65. The distance is just below 40 feet.
Modifiers: range +2, no aiming +0, gunfight experience -2 = +0.
Rolls 19, aims for the left leg.
Shotgun works slightly different. First the normal shotclock is used to locate the center of the dispersion pattern (close to the left knee in this case) and then there is a special shotclock that has coloured dots indicating the pellets, and the shotclock is rotated as per the result of the 1d4 roll.
Depending on the range, different colour pellets are counted. In this case, RED and BLUE.
Right leg: 4 blue + 3 red = 7 hits => 4+4+1+3+4+3+4 = 23 HP and 4 penetration damages (+4 HP) => 27 HP
Left leg: 2 blue + 2 red = 4 hits => 1+1+3+2 = 7
Groin: 1 red = 1 hit => 3
Right arm: 1 red = 1 hit => 1
Each pellet is 1d4 of damage. Total damage is 38 HP even before rolling the penetration damage, so the Indian is dead. The shotguns are truly deadly...

Sioux: He was going to fire on count 66 but he is dying on the ground now.

Sinta: she fired on count 67 (shot #3, firing deliberately). The distance was less than 90 feet. She missed. Then she runs towards the bandits.
Running: 5 feet/3 count, to reduce it to 70 feet or less takes 12 counts, so Count 79 she is ready to aim again.

Thief #2 => He fired on Count 56 at Harvey, distance 30 feet. And missed. He reloads and takes careful aim (15), count 71 he will shoot again. Modifiers: 2nd shot same target +1, careful aim +3, range -1, 2nd shot less than 2 seconds -1, Accuracy +1 = +3. He aims for the head and rolls 20! He hits the target (25 total no need for the shotclock). 4HP, and DEX temporarily -3. Flinching => Harvey passes barely.

Crowe: he shot at Bandit #1 on Count 73, total result 15, aiming for the chest.
1d4 = 4; 1d12 = 5; shot was wide to the right of the bandit.

Bandito #1 => After flinching, he will shoot at Harvey on Count 73 and -1 Accuracy (he is taking careful aim). +3 Aim, +1 accuracy, -1 modifier, -1 range = +2. He rolls 1 for a mishap, holster breaks nothing major

Harvey: he shot at Bandit #1 on Count 63, causing 3 HP. He reloads and fires again taking careful aim (10+5), so on count 78 he shoots aiming for the head. Result 25. 4 HP damage, -3 DEX total damage 7 HP, -1 Accuracy - 3 DEX. Flinches +2 speed.
