The time had come. The moment of truth. All the different paths these men had taken have lead to this. Every choice in every crossroad. A defining moment in their lives. They all had something to fight for. Something to loose. And this was maybe the end of the road to many…

An unfortunate shooting incident in Bannock set forth a series of events that spiraled out of control until the situation reached boiling point. The unrelenting lawman Jered Maddox rode from Bannock to bring justice to Sabbath, and somewhere down the line he had lost his purpose. Most of the men on his list were no killers. Just ordinary men trying to survive in the Shattered Frontier.

Crowe Wheelwright was riding with Vincent Bronson and Jason Bronson. Vernon Adams had been injured and captured. Sinta was also in jail. Harvey Stenbaugh and Marc Corman were dead. Hurd Price had fled.

The Bronson clan had hired gunmen. Outlaws from Delaware and Old Mexico. Choctaw Lee, Jack Dekker and Jose “Alacran”. Now Alacran was dead, and Choctaw injured. But they were still dangerous. However, these gunmen had also brought some unexpected allies for Maddox.

A negro bounty hunter named Trinity had pursued the Delaware outlaws all the way to Sabbath. After killing Alacran, he still had a score to settle with Choctaw and Dekker.

Finally, there was an ace in the deck. A wild card maybe. A long time ago, Mayer had been a member of the same gang as Choctaw and Dekker. He had left that life behind. Now, he carried a tin star, and he had found his place in Sabbath. However, once past sometimes came back to haunt, and soon enough Mayer had to face his.

Bronson lead his men to Sabbath. To get justice. To complete a resolution…

Vincent Bronson crossed the narrow stream on horseback and kept going. Behind him, Crowe, Jason and Choctaw followed. There was no turning back. Not anymore…

A few miles before Sabbath, they saw Jack Dekker riding away from Sabbath. He brought bad news. Jack and Alacran had went to Sabbath to see if they could kill the lawman. But he was not there, as he was out hunting for Adams and Price. Alacran entered the saloon and tried to kill Mayer, an old companion of Dekker and Choctaw. Alacran and Mayer had fell in love with the same woman.

Dekker told them how a negro, presumably a bounty hunter, had killed Alacran and almost killed Dekker. Also, Mayer was now a deputy sheriff. So there was a chance that Maddox would not be alone when they arrived. But they still had the upper hand.

Also, Jack wanted his rifle back. But for now, that would have to wait.

The following morning, Maddox arrived early. He brought injured Vernon Adams to custody. He had shot Vernon in the shoulder. As he rode into town, he noticed Marc Corman´s funeral was taking place. Many locals looked at the lawman with despise and hatred as he entered the sheriff's office.

Inside, he met Mayer and a new face. The bounty hunter Trinity W. King, also known as Arch Stanton, was doing the paperwork with sheriff Ryan for the delivery of Jose “Alacran” Luciano. In due time, Trinity would receive his reward to a bank account of his choice. The crazy Mexican had, in fact, killed a sheriff of San Acoma, and a friend of Maddox.

-Doc says Adams can't travel for a few days, the sheriff said to Maddox after he had told him what had happened the night before. -He's busted up inside, and sleeping now with Sinta in the jail room.

-When he gets better... let him go. Tell him he can go back to his land. The others, too. Tell him it's finished. I'm pulling out.

When he saw Ryan´s surprised face, he continued:

-I guess I just looked around me, he started. He looked tired and confused, for the first time in his life, he had doubts. -Soon there'll be no more towns like Bannock, towns that need a gun like mine. I guess yours is the right way, Cotton. And Mayer. Sit out the years. Find a nice, quiet town, one that pays a better house toll.

A knock on the door stopped his words mid sentence. Lucas opened the door.

-Bronson just rode into town. There's five of 'em. His son Jason, Choctaw Lee, Jack Dekker and Crowe Wheelwright. I'd say you bought more than you can chew this time.

-Damn fools! I'll go out and talk to them. There is no need for this now. Not anymore.

-Leave it be, the lawman said to Ryan. The slim chance of him leaving Sabbath without further bloodshed had vanished.

-A man gets caught in his own doing. You can't change what you are, and if you try, something always calls you back.

We must give those five guys a welcome they never forget. A higher position and a Winchester, guns singing and bad boys falling down... and pockets full of dollars. You ought to arm any capable man.

"Ace of Spades" Mayer

-The good people of Sabbath won´t lift a finger, pal, Mayer said. –They want the law, they need the law. But they don´t want it here, they don´t want it to put a hole in their pockets. Just yesterday, I faced a vigilante mob who wanted to attack Maddox.

The gambler smiled at Maddox  –You and I sit at the same table, Jered. The virtuous need us, but hah! They don´t like the smell. I´ll watch your back, like before. Don´t have the legs to run anyway, he said and grabbed a shotgun.

-Cotton? , he asked the sheriff as he moved himself on clutches towards the door.

–I can´t. I got no stomach for that kind of shootin´ anymore.
