The bullet broke a rib and sent Trinity stumbling backwards. Miraculously he did not fall down but stood his ground. However, lawman´s most dangerous ally was out of the game for a while.
Vincent Bronson fired again at Maddox, aiming for the legs as before. And he hit the knee!
His Colt Navy was almost a relic nowadays, and the lead balls did less damage than expected despite the hit. Maddox kept going. He had been in more gunfights than the other men combined. He knew if he stopped or hesitated, he was a dead man.

Mr. Bronson was keen on finishing off the sheriff who had caused all this mayhem. He kept firing in quick succession, which made it for difficult for him to aim accordingly. And he missed43 to the right.
The sheriff did not blink when faced with gunfire, and he pulled the trigger44 pointing at Choctaw´s head!

But he failed again, and his shot went wide and high. At the same time, Jason Bronson fired at the lawman44. He wanted his place in history, his name in big gold letters. And this was his chance.

Maddox hit the ground hard. It was not the first time he was down in a gunfight, but he felt this could very well be the last. Far in the distance, he could see Laura sitting on the wagon, waiting for him to ride away.
But that future was slipping away from him. He had missed far too many shots, he had been clumsy. Made too many mistakes. And when faced with accomplished gunmen, one mistake was all it took.
He was about to give up, let go. But still he grabbed his Colt Flat lying close by. The cold touch of the metal made him react, and even though he only had two bullets left, at least he was not unarmed.

Around them, the locals had not had time to react yet. However, there were at least two men armed and not far away. At present, no one wanted to get involved in the close quarter shooting game.

Crowe fired at Trinity, but his palms were sweaty and he missed by a lot.
Next to him, Choctaw approached Maddox holding his signature Colt Bisley in his left hand. The outlaw was hurt, and bleeding from more wounds than he could remember. Deep down, he knew he was not going to make it out alive. His time had come.
Choctaw smiled as he saw the lawman get to his knees. Suddenly, Maddox turned around quickly to face his foe. Choctaw fired his gun aiming for the head!
The lawman´s head tilted back and everything went dark. Yet he pulled the trigger. And he hit Choctaw in the stomach, sending the gunslinger flying through the air.
Both men were hurt. Maddox gasped for air trying not to loose consciousness.
At the same time, Trinity shot back at the young cowboy Crowe who had challenged him.

The bullet crossed Crowe´s forehead, and he saw his whole life flash before him. Everything went silent, and he could hear his own heartbeat. He could see Jack firing at Mayer, and missing.
BOOM!
Jason fired the shotgun barrel of his Lemat revolver, aiming at Mayer.
The shot went wide, but still two pellets hit Mayer. This was the second time the gambler had been fired at with a shot gun, and he had had enough!
