Hi,

Welcome! This is a no obligation guided tour of the game :) You should now see the scenes Choctaw Lee (that´s the character) has participated in. The scenes from the newest to the oldest, but here they are in chronological order:

0. [Pre-Production] The Mormon Businessman
0. [Prologue] Welcome to the West
2. [ACT1-Scene2] The Outlaws
3. [ACT1-Sc3] San Acoma
5. [ACT1-Sc5] Guns for Hire!
6. [ACT1-Sc6] Fun Night Out in Bannock
8. [ACT1-Sc8] Ride into Sabbath
10. [ACT1-END] End of Act I
12. [ACT2-Sc12] First Meeting at the Bronson Ranch
16. [ACT2-Sc16] Who´s Got the Edge
19. [ACT2-Sc19] The Predators

The story can be summarized: Choctaw, Jack Dekker and "Ace" Mayer were part of an outlaw gang (scenes 0-2), Mayer abandoned the gang and shortly after the gang split after they massacred a US Marshal and his posse. Jack and Choctaw fled south to San Acoma (3), where they joined up with Rosanna and Jose "Alacran" Luciano to form a gang of four. Choctaw was the leader. They were then hired by a wealthy cattle baron Vincent Bronson from the town of Sabbath (scene 5), who was having some problems with Mexican cattle thieves and wanted to have hired guns so his cowboys could concentrate on their work. Jack and Choctaw met with Hurd Price, Crowe Wheelwright, Vernon Adams and other cowboys in a town of Bannock to celebrate their new job (scene 6), and the cowboys were celebrating a successful cattle drive. They were shooting bottles and drinking whiskey. Then they rode to Sabbath (scene 8). A few months passed (end of act I), and then a lawman from Bannock rode into town with a warrant for the arrest of all the men that had been in Bannock that night. It turns out that an old man was shot to death by mistake. A meeting was organized (scene 12) and Mr. Bronson decided to try to talk to this lawman and reach an agreement. There was a shooting competition (scene 16) and afterwards, some men went to Sabbath to negotiate with the lawman, and in the meantime Dekker and Choctaw rode south to hunt down the cattle thieves (scene 19, current scene). They were again joined by "Alacran" Luciano. As a Mexican, Alacran had been able to infiltrate the thieves led by the Moreno brothers, and they had a secret hide out at the Old Fort. The plan is for Alacran to go and greet the thieves, and Jack and Choctaw sneak in and kill them all by surprise.

There is a Tutorial scene for Aces&Eights game, have a read but don´t worry too much, I can guide you with the skill checks. The combat system is somewhat peculiar, but if you read the story, especially the San Acoma shooting scene, you get an idea how it all works.

Have a look around, and let me know what you think, and any questions don´t hesitate to post.

Thank you very much. Now I can now where I am standing, and that´s a relief jeje. I´m going to star reading right now, and then i´ll tell you what I think, but so far for what I seen in a quick view, it seems a pretty good history to be part of.

OK cool. I think Choctaw Lee is a great character but he has not been used to his full potential. He is extremely good with the gun, cocky, confident, dangerous... His background as a half-Indian makes him an outcast for both the whites and the red skins, and he has very little to loose. He respects Mr. Bronson, but he is not afraid of anyone.

If you read his history (here) you get a better idea. He likes to provoke others, and maybe confuses Courage with being plain reckless. But so far, he has always survived.

He is hard and feelingless badass, unmoved by emotion. A true Hardcase.

Misunderstood by the tribe, hated by the whites, Choctaw had no other option than becoming the most badass possible, to face up the challenge of fighting the world.

Now officially he became my favorite character!!

If you believe I can learn on the road... I'll be happy to say that my friend, you have found a new Choctaw :D

Howdy :) have you been able to read the story so far? What do you think? Any questions, just shoot (not literally). I'm planning on posting this weekend so we get to continue the story.

¡Yep Compadre! I've been reading it to understand better the character, the history and the system. I need to tell you that I LOVE how gunfights works.
This is what i understand of the system:

Abilities: roll a d20 and the objective is to score less than your ability number. (Which are the modifiers for those ability checks?)

Skills: Roll a d100 and score more than your skill number. (Wich are the modifiers here?)

If you please could help me at the beginning adding my modifiers so i can understand them better, that would be awesome.

I´m ready to start, and willing to let my mark here :)

Cool. Ability checks are not very common. Skill check modifiers are +40% for average difficulty, +0% for "difficult", but I give you the info of what you need to roll. It's pretty straight forward. The complex part is the gunfight system. There is a reference sheet with accuracy modifiers and counts for each action. You don't have to learn them by heart, but you have to make choices in gunfight.

I've seen it, and i think that in theory i understand it jeje We need to see how i work on practise.

On saturday is my father's birthday so i will be very busy, but on sunday i could start my participation (or in friday).

Should i write a presentation in the off topic to make it official? :)

Yes feel free to post in off topic and to introduce yourself. Recently I have been posting about western films I've watched etc there, but anything goes really.

Ah, one piece of advice. Many characters and parts of the storyline are based on a film Lawman (1971) starring Burt Lancaster. If you have seen it no worries let me know, if you haven't I recommend to watch it sometime AFTER the game is finished

I haven't seen the film, but for sure i´ll do it when the game is finished. Do you have a link or a web page where you watch the series mentioned in the off topic? I want to watch them :)

Ok no rush. I will post in a short while to get the ball rolling again. Series you mean Deadwood? I found it somewhere to download. Most old films are easy to get in English. Also El Pais has been giving away wrstern classics every Sunday :)

Hope you had a nice birthday party. Please share in Off Topic any good western films. I enjoyed them when I was growing up, and this game has been a great opportunity to revisit the genre. Aces&Eights has a very authentic Wild West feel to it, and I´ve tried my best to put  background info and to create that atmosphere from those films.

Nice post btw, there is not too much dialogue in the scenes so it is important to get some of the character´s inner feelings and attitude across. Well done. As to the Colt Bisley, please feel free to elaborate on it. Choctaw is the only character who has a "signature weapon". This means he has been practicing a lot, but also that there is a special bond with this gun. Normally you have +2 Accuracy and +4 Speed modifiers in a gunfight, but with your signature weapon you get +1 Accuracy (so +3 total) and -1 speed (total +3). Please remember to apply this!

In Aces&Eights, there are no skills for shooting as such. You dexterity and other abilities give you the basic values, and these cannot improved by spending Building Points. It is the experience in gunfights that makes you better when faced with danger. You learn to keep your cool and shoot deadly when bullets are flying all over. At present, Choctaw has survived 4 gunfights.

Also, you have the special ability "Fanfire" which halves the negative modifiers for that technique.

Notas de juego

Thanks a lot for your good wishes, yes i'll share some films and series, but first i am gonna try to re watch them. Has been a lot of years since I watch that genre, that's why I'm very excited to be part of this.

Yes I noticed that there are a lot of things to take in mind to interpret Choctaw in a better way, I will try to squeeze those things to make him a most interesting character. The Colt Bisley is one of them ;)

Great, I´m going to try to make him survive a lot more of them xD

I´ve been thinking... What if we did a "Mayer extreme makeover". I mean, the original image (the legendary Buford Tannen) was OK for a crazy sumbitch outlaw, but ever since San Acoma, your character has changed a lot internally. Now, as a gambler with fancy clothes etc, he is more elegant and cool.

MAYER BEFORE:

MAYER AFTER:

What do you think? Henry Fonda coolness...

Notas de juego

I confess, I have an ulterior motive. It´s tough to find images for Mayer as the actor only did one "not so western" film, and he has the same expression on each scene!
