I saw the first two seasons of Deadwood. It's pure HBO, realistic, gritty drama. It has great moments and memorable characters (Al Swearengen being the most in/famous). I especially liked the part with Wild Bill Hickock, Keith Carradine was great. I found the show a bit too slow-paced though and got gradually bored until I finally stopped watching it. Besides, knowing it didn't have a proper ending, as it was cancelled after season 3, didn't help. I heard they were going to make a movie to tie it all up, but I think it finally never happened.

By the way, I recently watched Young Guns 2 and liked it a lot more than the first one. It manages to keep the fun tone while getting more dramatic and epic. It certainly is quite the opposite of Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid :) The soundtrack by Alan Silvestri was nice, big improvement there. And the Brushy Bill Roberts twist got me by surprise, I had no idea of that part of the story and was shocked when I checked it up and saw it was “real” :)

Yes, gritty it is. And I agree, the pace is slower than in a film, but the secondary characters are very well done. I also read about the show being cancelled after season 3, and that they had taken some things planned for season 4 (like Wyatt Earp) and put them on season 3 trying to finish the series as best as they good. The feature films are not going to happen either.

The real history of Deadwood is fascinating. And funny how the names of these legendary towns seem almost prophetic. Deadwood. Tombstone...

I read a great biography of Billy the Kid, and the Brushy Bill Roberts episode was depicted there in detail. Not much to it though, the claims seemed unfounded.

I´ve finished watching 1st season of Deadwood. It has some great moments, but I´ll have to agree with Malken about the pace being slow. On the other hand, I have a bunch of classic western films to watch, just have to find a good time to do it :)

Last weekend I watched "Once Upon a TIme in the West" by Sergio Leone. Again. Beautiful direction by the genius, and a great story and memorable characters. And maybe the best musical score in a western ever. Period. My original plan was not to watch any spaghetti westerns during this revision of the genre, but I couldn´t help myself.

Besides, I have a difficult time deciding on the films to watch from those waiting next to my DVD player. I have:

- The Searchers (starring John Wayne, in Spanish it´s "Centauros del Desierto")
- Major Dundee (by Sam Peckinpah)
- Vera Cruz (starring Gary Cooper and Burt Lancaster)

Any suggestions?

Thanks, your current scene has great potential with you, Hurd and Mayer in the same scene. It´s a very open scene, but I´m looking forward to see how it plays out. I think the other two are waiting for you to post, as Lucas asked you a question XP

Shoot, that was what i was afraid of xDD Well, I'll post as soon as possible. Hey, do you know how much time is this campaign going to last? I'm asking 'cause i'm opening one (I don't know if you saw the thread, it's set in the Harry Potter universe) and I want to be able to have an idea of the time i will be having in the next months.

It´s tough to say exactly, but the plan is to have a total of no more than 26-27 scenes (depends on some choices). At present, scene 19 is under way, so there are still 7-8 to play out. But the scenes are played simultaneously, so your character for instance might only have 2-3 scenes left after the present one.

My best guestimate... 2 months? I am also keen on keeping a good pace to wrap it all up and to avoid the game dragging on for too long :) On the other hand, I tend to be too optimistic with the scheduling, I thought we would be close to the final scenes by this time.

There are a few scenes I have been considering for Crowe, but if you have other commitments I can reduce the "screen time" for your character a bit after the current scene.

No, no, don't worry, I'm not gonna fail to develop Crowe as character as he should 'cause of other commitments. I'll be alright ;D

I think the campaign i told you about will be starting around mid-october or so, so it's okay ^^

Welcome again Agamenon, the scene is ready for you :) Hope you enjoy the game, you joined just as the right time for the big scenes coming up.

Regarding my western film journey, I chose to watch a black and white classic from 1962: "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance", starring John Wayne and James Stewart. I´ve got to admit I was doing something else with the computer at the same time (busy week after the holiday), but I knew this was just a flick. I mean, good actors and John Ford directing, but still it´s a very simple story. A non-violent man is faced with a true badass and ends up killing him. Or was it him who shot Liberty Valance? Whoever did, he got a name and reputation to himself. I´ve mentioned not being a John Wayne fan, but I think he is better as a supporting actor than in the main roles. There is another film on my list starring the Duke: "True Grit", where he plays a darker role. I´ll let you know when I´ve watched it.

When the owner of the saloon served whiskey, he took a sip from his glass and then left it back on the table.

Ok hold fire! (hehe) I'll update the scene shortly, and probably open a new one for the fight. Remember Alacran was meant to play with the guitar to create distraction? So Choctaw would move towards the lone mex as the guitar starts playing, then jack shoots (at the coyote somewhere far away it seems...) and the party starts

QUICK SUMMARY (SHOOTING)

1) BRING TO BEAR/AIM         (4 counts)

2) DECIDE AIM
Pistol: *steady aim     (2 counts, +2 acc)
fire delib.    (4 counts, +2 acc)
take careful aim (10 counts, +3 acc)
Rifle:     fire delib    (8 counts, +4 acc)
take careful aim (20 counts, +6 acc)

3) SPECIFY TARGET LOCATION
    if not specified = chest

4) SHOOT (1D20)
GM does modifiers: aim, distance, same target, nr of shots within 2 seconds, etc

5) ROLL DAMAGE
    see weapon characteristics

2ND + SHOTS
    Pistol:            5 counts + aim
    Rifle:             10 counts + aim
    Shotgun:        14 counts + aim

Notas de juego

The most important thing to decide is how long to aim. The more you aim, the better accuracy modifiers you get. "Steady aim" means you use the other hand to hold the gun tight. It can be combined with fire deliberately or take careful aim.

So when you "shoot" you have to specify target location (head, chest, shoulder) and roll 1d20. If you do not specify, I put the shot clock in the chest. Also roll damage always just in case (check weapon specifications).

Penetration applies! This means that any roll that you roll the maximum, you repeat and it is added to the previous roll.

Hi guys!!

Following the tradition of recommending movies, I suggest you to watch Django Unchained. A really good movie from the polemic Quentin Tarantino.

I'm sorry that my last poste isn't so extense as I would like to, but really there was no much to say jeje. I'll try to be more expresive in the post to come :)

Btw I still can't believe how unlocky with the dices I was xD

OK no worries, there wasn´t much to say other than shoot. Please use Off Topic to comment on scenes also, "Casting" is reserved for character sheet maintenance and improvements and such.

Bad luck with the dice, it will improve I´m sure.

Very very bad time to roll a "1". It´s not only a failed shot, it´s actually a mishap (I´ll have to roll to see what happens exactly).

The gunfights in Aces&Eights are quite deadly, so far no player characters have died... Hope Choctaw is not the first, but the risk is always there :)

No problem, I have to say that I also enjoy the suspense of what's about to happen. If my time comes... well Choctaw eill receive it with his head tall ;)
